Holding the pause button for 5-6 seconds worked and removed the progressive light.

    Thanks a million.

Just press and hold the pause key on the unit for about 5 or 6 seconds and the progressive mode light will go off and the picture will come back.

How do you get higher than 480p resolution on playback?

Hi Chuck, I copied this from the MWD7006 manual - I hope it helps.

If your TV is compatible with 525p (480p) progressive scanning and you want to enjoy that high quality picture, you must use Component Video cable connection and progressive scanning mode.

To set the mode, set "PROGRESSIVE" to "ON" in SETUP menu, so that the "P-SCAN" indicator on the front panel lights up.

When "PROGRESSIVE" is "ON", video signals from the unit's VIDEO OUT and S-VIDEO OUT jacks will be distorted or not be output at all.

If your TV is not compatible with progressive scanning, use this unit in interlace mode and set "PROGRESSIVE" to "OFF" either in SETUP menu, or by pressing and holding [PLAY B] on the front of the unit for more than 5 seconds, so that the "P-SCAN" indicator on the front panel lights off.

PROGRESSIVE LIGHT WAS SET BY MISTAKE, AND IT HAS BEEN SET ON AUTO HOW CAN I SOLVE THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE THERE'S ONLY A BLACK SCREEN AND SOUNDS THAT COMES ON.

According to the operating instructions (page 97), Progressive Scan can be cancelled (or turned off) by pressing and holding PAUSE (on the main unit) continuously for 5 - 10 seconds, until the progressive indicator goes out, or turning it off in the setup menu. Your recorder should now be back to normal interlace video output. I recommend that you check your setup menu after this procedure to make sure nothing 'AUTO' is set, that shouldn't be set, and subsequently turning off any function that isn't required.

RDR-GX315 was accidentally reverted to "Factory Settings" ... now we can get sound but no picture and progressive is turned on and we need to turn it off.

If your TV has progressive scan capability, you may be able to view the on-screen setup menu via the recorder - select 'SETUP' press 'ENTER' on your DVD recorder's remote to bring up the menu - with the remote arrow buttons, scroll down to select 'VIDEO' then 'PROGRESSIVE' - highlight it then set it to OFF (you cannot do this with a TV that does not support progressive scan from this unit). Once done, exit the setup menu and it should work fine with all the other settings. If your TV doesn't have progressive scan, connect the DVD recorder to one which does and turn its progressive output off there. I assume you still have the user manual for your recorder (if not, you can download it online for free as an Adobe document - .pdf. Page 73 details the setup steps for this model). I hope this tip helps somewhat.

No picture.progressive scan was pressed and now I cant see the menu to see how to turn it off.

If you need to see the menu in order to change this, then your only recourse is to connect it to a TV that has component input (RGB or YPrPb). The standard composite video output is disabled in progressive scan mode (Yel connector). If you have the manual, there may be a factory reset option that will return the unit to standard. Without the model number, I can't tell for sure.

Post the model number for more info.

Thanks,
Dan

Unable to actually see the photo in progress in the lcd!

I suppose you are referring to EOS XSi.
Hit the menu button
Go to the fifth menu, and choose the "Live View function settings"
On "Live Viwe shoot." select "Enable" option"
Go back to shooting modes.
The option works only with non automatic modes.
Hit the "SET" button each time you want to see the current picture in the screen, instead through the viewfinder.
Set to MF on the lens switch "AF-MF"

Please let me now if it works.

Stuck in P-scan mode also.

The "progressive" setting can be canceled by pressing PAUSE on the recorder continuously for 5 seconds or more.

Command mode change disabled remote

According to Sony, if you turn the power on and hold the Enter key and the #1 key down together for at least 3 seconds, everything will default back to factory settings.
