Try disabling the Progressive mode :

  1. Turn on the DVD recorder.
  2. On the front of the DVD recorder, press the DVD button.
  3. If a disc is inserted, remove it from the DVD recorder.
  4. On the front of the DVD recorder, press and hold the PAUSE button for about 5 seconds, until the PROGRESSIVE indicator disappears from the LCD display.
  5. Release the PAUSE button.

Hi
it seems that may not need to reset the unit as the progressive setting can be cancelled by pressing the pause button for 5 seconds or more.
the indicator light should then go off.

hope this helps.

To reset the recorder to factory defaults as if it was just removed from the box
    - leave the recorder on then press and hold the channel up and down buttons at
the same time until it says "Bye" on the display. When it shows the clock it is
off - wait a few seconds then turn it back on - you should see the initial setup
asking you to choose a language.

    its done.

How do you get higher than 480p resolution on playback?

Hi Chuck, I copied this from the MWD7006 manual - I hope it helps.

If your TV is compatible with 525p (480p) progressive scanning and you want to enjoy that high quality picture, you must use Component Video cable connection and progressive scanning mode.

To set the mode, set "PROGRESSIVE" to "ON" in SETUP menu, so that the "P-SCAN" indicator on the front panel lights up.

When "PROGRESSIVE" is "ON", video signals from the unit's VIDEO OUT and S-VIDEO OUT jacks will be distorted or not be output at all.

If your TV is not compatible with progressive scanning, use this unit in interlace mode and set "PROGRESSIVE" to "OFF" either in SETUP menu, or by pressing and holding [PLAY B] on the front of the unit for more than 5 seconds, so that the "P-SCAN" indicator on the front panel lights off.

PROGRESSIVE LIGHT WAS SET BY MISTAKE, AND IT HAS BEEN SET ON AUTO HOW CAN I SOLVE THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE THERE'S ONLY A BLACK SCREEN AND SOUNDS THAT COMES ON.

According to the operating instructions (page 97), Progressive Scan can be cancelled (or turned off) by pressing and holding PAUSE (on the main unit) continuously for 5 - 10 seconds, until the progressive indicator goes out, or turning it off in the setup menu. Your recorder should now be back to normal interlace video output. I recommend that you check your setup menu after this procedure to make sure nothing 'AUTO' is set, that shouldn't be set, and subsequently turning off any function that isn't required.

RDR-GX315 was accidentally reverted to "Factory Settings" ... now we can get sound but no picture and progressive is turned on and we need to turn it off.

If your TV has progressive scan capability, you may be able to view the on-screen setup menu via the recorder - select 'SETUP' press 'ENTER' on your DVD recorder's remote to bring up the menu - with the remote arrow buttons, scroll down to select 'VIDEO' then 'PROGRESSIVE' - highlight it then set it to OFF (you cannot do this with a TV that does not support progressive scan from this unit). Once done, exit the setup menu and it should work fine with all the other settings. If your TV doesn't have progressive scan, connect the DVD recorder to one which does and turn its progressive output off there. I assume you still have the user manual for your recorder (if not, you can download it online for free as an Adobe document - .pdf. Page 73 details the setup steps for this model). I hope this tip helps somewhat.

According to Sony, if you turn the power on and hold the Enter key and the #1 key down together for at least 3 seconds, everything will default back to factory settings.

DVD player wont show picture

to turn it off select connection method 3 above and progressive scanning mode, to set the mode, set progressive to off in the display menu so that the p scan indicator light on the front panel goes out. do all of this in interface mode. you can also do this by pressing and holding PLAY > on the front of the unit for more than 5 seconds, still watch for the p scan indicator to go off. this works best when the unit is connected directly to the television.

I'm stuck in Prggressive Mode on my RDR-VX515

pressing and holding the PAUSE button on the front of the DVD player for 5 seconds. (this is the one that worked for me) Hurray!

pressing the PROGRESSIVE button on the front of the DVD player or P.SCAN button on the remote control to disable the progressive signal.
power off the DVD player and press 369 using the number buttons on the remote control, then power back on the DVD player.
moving the VIDEO OUT switch on the back of the DVD player to the INTERLACED position.
