Question about Digital Cameras

1 Answer

I've acquired an older Minolta 8mm video camera: the tape door opened, but tape was caught inside. I wiggled the tape out, and now the door won't close. I suspect I bent the closing aperature(s) or ?? Where can I get this repaired? I live between Louisville, Ky (to my south) and Columbus, Indiana (to my north). Thanks much!

These days, it is easier to sell a broken camera as-is auction style somewhere, then it is to repair it. You can usually get about 1/2 of your used camera worth back this way.

Pentax optio w80 waterproof digital camera won't turn on

I had the same problem. I checked the voltage first to ensure it was greater than 3.7V (some batteries were not). I left the door open and pushed the battery down and pressed the button and it powered up. Seems to be a problem with the contacts. I put about 6 layers of duct tape on top of the battery to cause the door to push it down and now it works.

Having not used my Canovision E50 CCD 8mm for a number of years. My batteries or charger unit won't run the camera. Not even anough to open the tape holder

Need to get new batteries for it to run it. 8mm is kind of outdated format that doesn't interface well with computers for playback.

You could use a piece of velcro as a strap but I would start looking at ebay or other places for the parts to fix it. Sooner or later someone will sell it.

Your description should be clearer in order to get the actual problem.
But, I will try to see what I can do.
Depending on the kind of camera you have, it should take video tape, either digital or analog in various sizes such as 8mm video cassette. Some may take a different kind such as VHS-C. The manual should describe what kind you need.
Some kinds of smaller, and newer video cameras may take a memory card of some kind. In that case, you would need no video tape, just a memory card of the kind recommended.
Some of the very cheap small video cameras may use only internal memory and no external whatsoever. In that case, you need nothing except to take videos. However, be advised that usually short, low quality movies can be recorded and must be moved from the camera to the computer, in order to take more videos. Some of these also take snapshots as well.

I've had to fix this problem several times. You need to open the 8mm cassette, and manually rewind to where the tape got twisted around. Then untwist it, and manually wind the tape back on the reels. and then put the cassette back together. If the tape isn't torn you should be fine. There might be creases in the tape- but they will only give you a slight picture glitch or drop out. You need to run a head cleaning tape through your camcorder before you try taping again. It might hose up the next tape if you don't.

The tape must be broken or rolled inside the camera, try to see if you can open the camera door a bit and force tape out. You will probably lose the tape.
