Question about Cameras

1 Answer

I've acquired an older Minolta 8mm video camera: the tape door opened, but tape was caught inside. I wiggled the tape out, and now the door won't close. I suspect I bent the closing aperature(s) or ?? Where can I get this repaired? I live between Louisville, Ky (to my south) and Columbus, Indiana (to my north). Thanks much!

These days, it is easier to sell a broken camera as-is auction style somewhere, then it is to repair it. You can usually get about 1/2 of your used camera worth back this way.

8mm JVC tapes put into a VHS tape that will play on a combined TV and VCR. Please, please, I need your help! Found tapes from 15 years ago.

You need an 8mm player or the camera that recorded the tapes. Connect the video and audio from the 8mm player/camera to a VHS recorder. Put the 8mm on play and the VHS on record.

Will not play rewind or fast forward

Here are some things to check:
1. will the tape door open - if so look for foreign objects inside
2. does the camera power up normally - viewfinder ok?
3. is a tape jammed inside?
If this does not help, I would say your chances of getting repairs are slim. Best to cut your losses and modernize. You can get your old tapes copied to a newer format.

HAVE CCD-TRV22 , WHAT VIDEO TAPE NUMBER DO I

Though 8mm filming was and still is the best safest way to make movies Sony have stopped producing 8mm tapes, I use the brand new Digital 8 tapes on my brand new Sony camera, would never dream of going over to Hard drive/SD card/DVD recording cameras as the image will not last as long as it will on 8mm tape.
Also the 8mm cameras are much better made than anything since 2006.
If you type 8mm movie tapes in your search engine you will find 100's of firms still selling your tapes, they will help you choose the right one ok?

Sony 8mm camcorder will record sound but no video

Since it is playing the tape, the play head is ok. Now recording is done by recording heads so you may have a clogged heads or damaged recording heads. Try to clean the heads with head cleaning tape to see if it would help. 1. remove the tape and leave the door open. 2. using a canned air, blow out any dusts in the tape area. 3. run head cleaning tape for about 10 seconds and no more. 4. try the recording.. If this does not resolve, you may have a damaged or heavy clogged video heads. Take it to nearest video technician for a diagnostic. -James

Viewing SONY 8mm Tapes -- Please help

The older tapes were shot on a 8mm camcorder and the camcorder you have wil not play them becasue it doesn't have backwards compatability with the older format. The tapes you recorded are on a digital 8 camcorderr and it is different encoding than the one you recorded the other 60 tapes with. You will need to find either a dcr-trv 350 trv 530 trv 730 ect as these have the ability to play all the tapes.
Or find an older 8mm camcorder to play your tapes with.
Hope this helps
Cheers
