Ceased to Function - Overload?

Our vacuum is relatively new but, sadly, we failed to register the warranty. I was vacuuming up a lot of spilled ashes, from the fireplace, when it ceased to function. The filter was badly clogged and may have caused an overload problem. There was a change in the sound of the suction for about a minute before it stopped. I was just wondering if there's some fuse, or likely connection, or something that may have burned up rather than the motor? Is it likely the motor as I fear? There was no burned electrical odor. I'm wondering whether to bother to seek repairs or not?

- Thermal cut out Most Dyson vacuums have a built in safety system that stops the machine if it begins to overheat. This usually happens because the filter needs washing or your machine is blocked. If your machine turns off on its own, unplug it and leave it for at least an hour to cool down. Remember to check the filter and look for blockages before re-starting.Same Problem
