When i turn the heat up sometimes it takes a long time for the gas furnace to start ..why?

Watch your furnace when you turn the thermostat up...make sure to record everything that it is doing. If you have an induced draft, forced air system, then the heat sequence of order should go like this... Initial call for heat from tstat, Inducer vent motor turns on-pulls in the pressure switch, circuit board sends power to igniter whether it is spark or hot surface, then gas valve opens. Flame sensor senses flame, burner stays on, and blower motor kicks in to heat the space. If you notice any variance from this, then something needs to be checked by an HVAC Service Tech.

I have a honeywell ct3200 with a trane xl 80 furnace. it will cycle on to the right temp, go off and cycle the furnace back on 30 seconds later. Is that normal? It is 32 degrees outside, set at 68

Hi, check page 22 in your manual, it says "Adjust the screws on the back of the thermostat as instructed on page 7." Your furnace is a 80% efficiency but is also a high efficiency 2 stage heating system so try adjusting screws A and B both ways and see which gives you the correct cycling.
Your manual is here:

When I turn my heat on in my Honeywell programmable thermostat the fan kicks on for a couple of seconds then shuts off before my heat starts up. How can I get rid of this initial fan start up?

Sounds like that is a 'prepurge" on your furnace. Remove the doors on the furnace and look at the wiring diagram it will usually say on there where to place or move a small jumper from a 0/30/60/90 second prepurge. On some models this may not be adjustable. If your brand is a carrier this may be the case.

If you can give me a little more information on type of system you have (forced air furnace with heat/cool, Heat pump or boiler)? How many wires are on old thermostat? Is it a no programmable or programmable? How old is the furnace?

Heater blower motor cycles on and off (frequently). I have a class 2 LR95329 Honeywell Thermostat

The clicking noise is a relay or switch of some sort. You are right about that. I have 2 questions. 1) does the thermostat have a mercury bulb in it? 2) when the fan shuts off and on, does the burner stay on?
