Question about RCA P60921 60" Rear Projection Television

RCA P60921 60 in. Rear Projection not working

I posted something about 30 minutes ago about our "Philips" tv not working....I lied. It is an RCA. RCA P60921 60 in. Rear Projection I believe. Anyhow...a few weeks ago, we were just sitting down watching tv when all of a sudden the tv started making this VERY LOUD "buzzing/screeching" sound that scared the bleep out of me. We went up to the tv to see what was going on and could smell a faint burning smell coming from the bottom of the tv. Any ideas? Is the tv toast?

particleaudi - I will check the exact model in about 10 minutes when I get home. As posted above, I believe it is a RCA P60921 60 in. Rear Projection, but again, I will confirm shortly. The TV is just over 3 years old. Thank you.

wow....my nose is growing! I lied again! But now that it's in front of me, I won't lie anymore. It is an RCA HD56W58. Chassis # is ATC321. I just read another post that sounded similar to mine and I read about Splitter and Deflection boards?? How costly is this and is it worth repairing? Can a non-TV tech fix this if you have some computer building comfortability?

yes, it still squeals when we turn it on...that is, if we can get it to turn on. It decides at times that it doesn't want to turn on. The power light will flash several times and then go off. If I hold in the power button, it will turn on and make a loud sound. So...I need to order the flyback and the horz output transistor from global electronics? Any idea what the part numbers are? I know what the part numbers are for the high voltage transformer and for the splitter/distributor, but that probably won't help, right? My BF is really good with computers and removing/replacing parts, so I think he would be ok if he knew exactly what to doo. But, nonetheless, we may still have an expert. Thanks for your help.

Could be the flyback as some eat them depends on how old it is, and what model it is be more specific. also possible high voltage divider box

aaah sounds more and more like a flyback... when you turn it on does it squeel still? if so you would have eaten a horz output transistor. this would be caused by a flyback short and would require both parts availible from global electronics... although this is not a super tricky repair it does involve removing parts and replacing.. these board are fairly delicate and are easily damaged. be carefull not to lift off the trace. beware .... since you would be working around high voltage you do so at your risk.

if you have 0 experience doing this it might be wise to have an expert do it for you..

flybacks tend to cost around $100 canadian and the transistor about $20...

    good luck
