My e270 displays a "key locked, system shutdown" message. At first it would flash this message and shut down as soon as it was turned on. I connected it to my computer to see if I could keep it turned on. Now it will not shut off but it continues to display the same message and will not do anything else. I have tried the key lock in both on and off positions.

 Reset All
NOTE: THIS IS AN ADVANCED OPERATION AND RESTORES ALL SETTINGS
TO THE FACTORY DEFAULTS. NORMAL USERS ARE NOT RECOMMENDED
TO PERFORM THIS OPERATION!
If your device freezes up press the Menu button and hold for 15 seconds.
This is like a power down of the device. Once you perform the reset, the adjustments you made during last operation
will be gone.

You have to Download the Sansa Recovery Tool from Sandisk's website first. Then, disconnect the Sansa from the computer, press and hold in the REC button, and then reconnect the Sansa while holding the REC button.

Reformat the whole thing with Rockbox. That's the whole point with buying the Sansa, as far as I understand.

SanDisk Sansa e270 MP3 Player has only 79 songs and 3 GB used

You may have some corrupt data on the device.

It sometimes creates the wrong file allocation and gives you an incorrect representation of the free space.

Try formatting the device in My Computer to erase all of the information and start over.

My Computer>Device Name(e270)>Right Click and select FORMAT.

Best of Luck.
