Question about Toshiba QOSMIO F15-AV201 Notebook
I get this on my laptop that says Messenger Failure- media center unable to open messenger. Please make sure that windows messenger is installed on your system.
I am connected to windows messenger with a username and password. Actually i never had to have a username and password. Every time media center tries to make a connection i get the above message. This has never happened before.
The problem can not and will not be solved by a reinstall of the operating system or a reinstall of messenger. The issue comes from a security update from Microsoft. Go to this link to a blog written by a member of the microsoft Media Center Security Team, it has a couple of easy solutions to the problem. Click on the Registry fix downloads for whatever option you want to use. The fix, in a nutshell, is to either ban the security update from media center OR to stop messenger from being used in media center. Personally, I have no need for messenger let alone using it in media center. Good luck!

There are a couple of fixes to uninstalling KB46648, then turning off the option in Media Center to not accept incoming messages, but this is the easiest option and worked for me. Below is the page I got it from and the author Nirojan, who submitted it, but you might want to read all of the posts there - or at least some of them.
User who had solution: Nirojan
Steps to perform to get this done:
1. Open Notepad and copy and paste the following into it:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
2. Go to File-->Save As... save the file on the desktop as
3. Launch messengerfix.reg and hit yes.
4. Open media center, issue should be resolved
