Router is not a system device that is why you cant see your router on your computer, if your referring about the linksys installation disk this will guide you to setup your router to manage all your device that you want to connect to it. to see the router you need to connect your computer to your router using a ethernet cable on the lan port and run the linksys disk and it will walk you thru the setup of your router

Had to switch modems today and now can not get the lynksys tom work when I am hook from the computer to the modem i get internet. How do I rehook my linksys

Yuk, Linksys has really gone down the tubes as far as ease of use of their routers. You HAVE to use the Linksys router install CD in order to reconfigure your router.

Manual setup will not work.

If you can't find the install CD, try to find it on Linksys's website, but I have been there done that and basically threw it away and got a Belkin router instead, no automated setup and much easier to use.

Windows XP is not the problem. It may be that the CD you have is unreadable in some way or is conflicting with another application. However, you don't actually need to use the CD to configure your router. If you can connect the ethernet cable between your computer and the ports labled LAN (or they may just be numbered 1 - 4), you can set up the router using the web-based utility. With the computer connected to the router, open a web browser (like Internet Explorer) and type http://192.168.1.1 in the address bar and press enter (if that doesn't work try 192.168.0.1). If you are asked for a password, leave the user name blank and try "admin" (no quotes) for the password (or "password"). This should get you into the web-based setup utility. From there you can run set-up wizards witin the uiltity.

Linksys also has free technical support for at least the first 90 days. They should be able to assist you with using the web utility to configure your wireless or possibly replace your CD or point you to a download for the software.
