Remote light stays on will not operate dvd player

It looks to be a "normal" problem with this model. I have two of them with the same problem. Solved ressondering IR receptor.

I inherited a Kenwood SW 505 Sub woofer. I don't know if it works I plug it in but no lights.

Did you keep the manual? Start over at the beginning. Digital optical audio cables are usually redundant if you have HDMI.

If you are using HDMI cables for HD then you will need to connect this from your dvd player to you tv. Then connect your dvd player to you amp using either fiberoptic cable or co-axil (orange) this will transfer your dolby digital signal. Then connect other stuff like video / freeview etc to the yellow red and white on amp, you may need a scart to phono cable. Then connect monitor out from you amp to the yellow on your tv .This way when you select the source on the amp the picture will change also. If you search the web for vr-505 manual there are some sites offering it.

One of the motors in the mechanism died making a near short circuit. When the DVD tries to energize the motor, a lot of current passes through the circuits making the PSU protection to shut down the power supply to avoid damage or fire.
To get the movie out, you'll have to disassemble the DVD player and remove the disk. After that the DVD will be unusable because of the failing motor. The replacement often is more expensive than buying a new Chinese DVD player.
