SOURCE: How to format the LaCie 500GB d2 Quadra for Windows XP??

This way it should work...
Connect your drive to the computer...
Go to: Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer management.
A new window will appear...
Select Storage > Disk management on the left of the window.
Now you will see the different drives that are connected or part of your system.
One of the drives listed there is your LaCie, i think you'll recognize it by name...
Right-click on it, and select 'format'
In the new window, select the new volume label (as you like it), the file system (use NTFS), and set allocation unit size to default.
Make sure 'Perform a quick format' is not checked...

Then click OK. Your drive will be formatted now... Don't interrupt the process

Windows media player

No 500mb of songs is not a problem for Windows Media player. I have in excess of 400GB of music on a network hard drive and it copes without difficulty. If you look at the bottom of Media player you will see a pair of icons to the left of the play button. The one furthest left is the "Shuffle" button.

I'm glad someone else has relized we are getting mugged off!!

The thing is, there is 8GB of storage on your device. It needs 500mb for the firmware partition and the other 500mb goes to the formatting of the device's memory, OS, hardware etc. You'll get the same problem on any device.

There should be issue in RAM memory fixing.
Just clean dust from it and its slot on laptop.
Then try to fix 3 to 5 times you can do it.

Formatting

You should try to upload the newest firmware for your device. Simply go to irivers site, look under Iriver Clix Generation 1 support (I'm guessing you have the generation one... if not, just click generation two). Simple as that!

Micro SD problem loading music

Just a guess, but I'm thinking the problem may lie in the format of the media. Try to format in FAT32. Also make sure that the full card is used ( don't do only 500mb or such ) FAT file system used to only allow a certain amount of space for
(F)ile (A)llocation (T)ables, and I think only a certain length of file names ( I'm thinking 8 character ), while FAT32 allows for 32 character file names, and allows for more FAT table information. I wouldn't ty NTFS if it does allow, as some portable devices do not read them, but fat and fat32 should be universal...
