Question about Kenmore Refrigerators

1 Answer

Is it okay to transport a new fridge on its side or back?

It is a new 18 cu ft fridge, cross top freezer type. We would be bringing it from the shop to home, in city traffic, about a 15 - 20 minute drive - in a small truck (with fixed canopy).
We have had mixed answers to this question from the salespeople.... one said yes, one said no. We do understand that it must be left standing for several hours before plugging it in. How many hours do you recommend - 24? 48?

TIA for your advice/help.

The key here is that you must let the unit stay upright for a period of time BEFORE you plug it in. So, yes it is ok to transport it on its side. Let the unit sit in its correct position for 4 hours or so and you should be fine. The issue is the oils and freon (or equivalent) that must be allowed to pool in the bottom before you attempt to run it.

New fridge coming today...

Good day,
If it's being delivered by an appliance company, they know that the machine has to be transported upright. So no. You should be able to plug it in as soon as it's set up.
IF the machine is transported on it's side, then yes, a minimum of 24 hours is necessary to get the oil back into the compressor.

Just bought a new whirlpool top freezer fridge. Waited 4 hours then plugged it in. 30 hours later food is still not cold enough and fridge continues to run. Will it get colder, am I not giving it enough...

If you transported the fridge on it's side you may have drained oil into your lines, causing excessive head pressure. If you haven't unplugged it yet, please do it now and allow 8 hours for the oil to drain back to the compressor. If you are lucky, and the fridge didn't run too long and burn up the compressor, you should be able to come up to temperature with no trouble.

My fridge suddenly does not get cold enough. The freezer only goes to +10 C.

See that ur settings r ok and if so then put the to max to see if it makes a differance. If not Take a good look at the coil in the back of it If u see frost in the back of your fridge it is time to change it (Had the same problem and called an expert, coast money for him and the new fridge)

Is it ok to transport a refrigerator on it's side?

Not true. Refers since the 1950's are sealed units but for safety's sake let it sit for awhile after you move it.
