Question about Black & Decker Leaf Hog 12-AMP Electric Blower/Vacuum #BV4000

B & D leaf hog (blower/vac)

Just yesterday, as I was using the vac to **** up leaves it lost power. I had tried changing cords, outlets, no luck.

Is there something else I can try? Or is it time for another one?

Thanks,
Mike

While vacuuming up leaves, the power head just quit working. Tried different outlets with no success. The fan blades will rotate manually. Any ideas?

I took mine apart and found a fuse. The fuse looked fine but when I jumped it the vac worked again. This has to be done with great care because you are working with exposed live parts. If you are not afraid of electricity don't do it. The fuse seems to be soldered in so its not easly changed. I don't think permanently jumping the fuse is advisable but you should be able to find a like fuse and resolder it it in.

I have had the fuse "blow" in my LeafHog for a third time and am looking for a better solution than just replacing it. The fuse element does not actual but seems to develop enough heat to melt one of its ends out of the metal cap. Is there there a more robust fuse that can be used?

If it's a 2500 model they seem to have a notorious problem with the
motor brushes burning, over-heating and melting their surroundings.
The part (2 brushes) is not available thru B&D. This was a nice
design with a historically bad motor. The 4000 model it "may" be
better. Most people who had a 2500 had at least two because the first
one worked great until it burnt out. I was given a dead one, with
externals parts from the first, and found the lower brush to be the
issue. The fact the part is not available could mean the original
    motor design was simply faulty.

Yes, the blower works but the vacuum does not. I believe that the blower and the vacuum attachments are what gives the motor its direction. Therefor if it works one way and not the other the problem must be where the attachment engages the motor. I'm afraid I may have to look for another vacuum piece.

You haven't stated the model you're referring to.. Here's a link to a Black and Decker blower vac manual, but it might not be your model as I'm having to guess due to lack of info.

TB197BV won't start at all

there is a fuse in the blower if you can find the part and do the work it not that hard to do the fuse is in the handle but you need to take the blower apart and be very carful that the switch and the other parts stay where they are, but it may have blown the fuse for a good reason "motor" bad, or to light and too long of a cord and ran too long at one time good luck

How to reverse a blower vac

You will be wasting your time. The fan creating the wind is not going to give you proper flow. It was designed to work one way. Changing wiring will not work on some motors. Also depends if its AC or DC motor.

Leaf Hog stopped operating

The plug then the cord. There is allot of stress where the cord enters the unit. if it looks worn you can rewire a new cord on it.

How do I switch between vac to blow?

The long thin tube is for blow and the larger dia. tube is for vac. and usually mounts at the fan area on bottom of your machine. Do you still have your instruction book or the local home center where you purchased it, will answer this question and give direction. Good Luck...

Older leafhog don't know how to change over to blower instead of vacuum model Bv2500

Remove the vacuum tube completely from the bottom of the machine and make sure the impeller cover closes completely. Remove the collection bag off of the blower outlet. Now attatch the blower tube to that outlet on the blower. Done.

the electric motor should not need oiling sounds like you are running on a lightweight ext cord and under powering motor try hooking up to a plug directly into outlet see if problem persist

Toro Blower..No power. Like a blown fuse. Does it have a fuse?

I have the Toro 51591 model. Yesterday, mine did the same as yours. I opened up the case and found that a small cylinder had broken off of the switch. So it could be that your switch is the problem. I have been unable so far to find a replacement anywhere.
You should consider using your warranty.

I have a 51592 Rake and Vac Toro blower. Yesterday, when using the blower (all I use) the cord got hot and started to melt both the blower cord and extension cord; First time ever I have had this problem.

If it is getting hot enough to melt the electric cord and the extension cord, get rid of it. The over-heating is most likely from the brushes in the motor, which means, unless you are a licensed electrician or know one, the unit should be scrapped. Replacement parts for these electric blowers are priced such that it is cheaper to buy a enw one than to fix the old one.

The engine stopped running even afetr changing electrical cords and outlets. Can it be repaired?

Yes, but you may find it as cost effective to purchase another. It could have an onboard circuit breaker, or on-off switch bad, and even the motor itself.
