Call the person who installed it, there could be another control on this that will energize the defrost, or call Goodman tech support they should give you the sequence of operation

Why does my PTHP. shut off and switch to electric resistance heat?

im guessing its there way of defrosting the coils , as with this type (small) its tough to defrost the coils in an efficient way , hp runs normal to within one or two degrees of setpoint , hp shuts off or reverses in low speed , back up heat comes on to complete the room heat and to generate the heat needed to defrost the coils , entire unit shuts off when set point is reached , reversing valves set for heat and wait till next cycle

now mine does something slightly different : it runs for fifteen minutes and if set point is not reached it switches to back up and reverses the coils ,leaves compressor on (low speed) , this heats the coils up and defrosts the outdoor unit , and if it runs long enough twenty minutes total time , it goes back to normal and aux heat shuts off . this drives me insane thinking how much im spending on heating the outside !! but im sure its needed to prevent ice build up on outdoor coils ,and I sure don't want that cracking with ice formations

Brand New 2 weeks old 4 ton Trane compressor leaks a lot of water onto pad

If the unit is running in cold weather than there is ice building up on the coils located outside. This is normal in that the unit is running in heat pump mode heating inside and cooling outside, After the unit detects the ice build up it briefly reverses the cycle heating the outside coils melting(defrosting) the ice which you observe as water on the pad.

BUZZING NOISE FROM MY HEAT PUMP

Take a look at this YouTube page that explains with good videos what are some of the common problems with heat pump noise. The one that seems dominant is the defrost cycle a heat pump goes thru when it melts ice off the evaporative coils. In defrost cycle, The compressor runs but the cooling fan does not, so you will hear a loud buzzing sound and the unit sounds like it is stalled...because only the compressor is running to generate heat to melt coil ice.

I have a 18000btu LG mini split heat pump installed about 1 year ago in vacation home. In heat mode the unit cycles on and off when room temp is within 2-3 degrees of set point. Cycle on time varies...

Hello.I think they are on to something with shortcycling on temp sensor.I think it should be sampling the return air instead of (inside coils ?).A 2*f dead band use to be built in (factory installed) to thermostats to prevent on/off, but not sure in this case.Try a new sensor location(return air) and see if anything changes.

I have a Carrier Heat pump that is iceing up in cold weather and not defrosting properly. Where is the switch to decrease the time between the defrost cycles? I understand there are 3 settings prossible...

switch for defrost is inside condenser your options are usually 30, 60, 90 minutes. you can not decrease times between defrost it is determined by a coil sensor it senses ice on coil and puts unit into be aware that heatpumps are only effecient down to certin temps.the switch you describe is length of defrost.

Goodman package- no heat below 30 degrees outside

I believe the unit you are describing is a heat pump. Heat pump are great when the temperature isn't below 30 With low ambient temps. outside it is much more efficient and comfortable to run aux. electric heat from the heat pump.

New heat pump system freezing, questioning wiring.

W1 and E on stat need tied together. When W1 comes on wire where all heat elements come on. On the outside unit defrost board set the 45-60-90 to 45 and see if that takes care of the frost problem.

do you have a totaline t-stat. they and some other brands have a fan recirculation setting in the installers menu.

this is assuming that this happens in addition to the heating or cooling normally

RUUD Central Air/Heat Pump

Start with the simplest first it,s not fun but it's necessary EVERY TIME. Clean your evaporator and condenser coil, change your air filter. Getting to the evap. coil is often a real headache and a result doesn't get done often. When its clogged as you probably know the refrigerant can't absorb heat at the coil so it tries to absorb heat on the way to the compressor freezing the hot gas line the safety circuits that protect the heat pump compressor from getting liquid refrigerant back to the compressor almost immediately will take the compressor of line (looking somewhat like a defrost cycle). I hope this helps it's a tough repair GL!
