Allegro ABV411 (DVD/VCR): VCR records with a ''vertical roll''

Remember those old TV's with the vertical and horizontal knobs? That's what I need for this VCR, as the picture won't stabilize from currently made recordings. Previously recorded VHS tapes (before this problem arose) playback just fine!

Also, for a few weeks, everytime I tried to go into FF or REW (from a complete stop - as opposed to cue/review while in Play mode...which worked fine), an ERR message would flash....the VCR would turn off...and yet, the tape would either rewind or go forward for about half a minute (about 6 minutes actual tape time)...WHILE THE UNIT WAS OFF! (The direction seemed random).

I'd keep starting and stopping the unit until the problem went away.

Last few days, that prob is gone...time to junk the unit?

Thanx!

FACE

PS: FF and REW also seem sluggish about half the time (tape will actually move at the speed of (as if in) Cue/Review while in play!)

SOURCE: Comcast Digital Conversion box (cable TV)

You will have to split the signal before it goes into the digital box. The digital box is not allowing the analog signal to go to your vcr so you will only be able to record what you are watching on the cable box (on channel 4). If you split it, you will get all your analog channels back on your VCR (the way it was before the box was added).

I want to hookup my insignia converter box to my dvd/vcr and my tv so I can record programs. What do I need to do. I have a 2 year old Toshiba Dlp and an Allegro dvd/vcr

Cable from wall to "cable in" on converter box.
"Cable out" from converter box to "cable in"on vcr. "Cable out" from VCR to TV "Cable IN" DVD should be hooked to VCR by way of Composite cables Red,Left, Yellow, Video White Right. There you go! THanks, Dana

Video tapes played through VCR experience vertical 'rolling'

unfortunatly no. the vert hold is set by black bars at the top/bottom of the video signal (outside of the viewable area). it sounds like your VCR or tape is damaged.

The picture on the VCR keeps rolling. How do I remedy this? I have a Sylvania cca-132a2 model.

i know this may seem old-school, but try turning the vertical hold knob. it used to solve all vcr problems with rolling picture.
