Cobra GPSM 2200 not getting signal

I've got the latest software. I just can't get a signal from a satellite. Cobra states to send it in for a repair. I've spent $300 on this plus $30 for the software and power cord. I don't want to send it in when I can buy a new one. Cobra states the antenna may be damaged. The antenna is a Cirocomm 590.
Thanks, Antoinette

SOURCE: GPS 60 unit shows "Searching the Sky" status message all the time

The "New Location" fix above brought my GPS 60 back to full operation. I did reload the GPS software from Garmin but the recovery depended on well charged batteries and as above: turn the unit on
press MENU button
scroll to "New Location"
wait 10 minutes for the GPS to recover.

SOURCE: Garmin Nuvi Firmaware Update Complete, Unable to catch satellite signal

I get that issue on my StreetPilot C550.  It's is consistently followed by an inability to receive Satellite.  Here's how I can tell on my unit: When I get the Updating Firmware, 1%, Done message, the satellite reception indicator always shows absolutely nothing. If I power it off, pull the car charger, wait, replace the car charger, turn the unit on, the indicator shows one red block on the signal strength indicator.
When I see the red block, I know I'll get reception.  No red block, no amount of waiting will help...  I have to completely power-cycle the unit to get a signal lock.

SOURCE: hello. i have a cobra

There are no updated maps or software available for that model. So, I need to upgrade to the 5000 gpsm for just a little over $200.00, plus I need to send in the old one. Will receive the new one in the mail 8-10 days.

SOURCE: Long periods with no signal - NUVI 660

Try to take it out of the car so that it has a completely unobstructed view of the sky. See if the signal problem is resolved. If that resolves the problem then you will need to find another place to attach it to the insude of the card. If that doesn't resolve the signal problem you will need to return it to the manufacturer. They have a program where they rebuild it for a flat fee regardless of what is wrong with the device.

unfortunately, if you locked you unit and dont remember the passcode, the unit has to be sent in to cobra because they are the only ones that can unlock it. Its an anti theft measure. Their contact number is 1-773-889-3087.

Why does my unit not work after a (paid) update?

Have you been able to get satellite connections (signals) when you're outdoors ? and not under/around tall buildings or overhanging obstructions.
Regularly get QuickGPSfix update (using TomTom HOME) to download the latest satellite positions (for the next 7 days), to enable your GPS to find the satellites quicker.

All of a sudden, my Garmin SP 7200 lost all satellite reception. All the signal bars are blank. Garmin says $190 to repair. Really like this unit but considering another unit. Is the GPS receiver...

Hello,

Try running and installing or reinstalling the latest update using the Garmin WebUpdater.
download the latest version of WebUpdater software
Usually this will resolve most issues.
Failing that, the GPS receiver is replaceable as per Garmin's $190 to repair.

I have troubles on receiving satellites what can i do?

Receiver sensitivity seems to vary much more on GPS receivers than any other device I've seen. Yours may not have even specified minimum sensitivity so you may not be able to receive a large enough number of satellite signals (you must have several) to guarantee a 'lock' and adequate accuracy unless you have a clear view of the sky. Any kind of obstruction can affect signal strength such as using it in a vehicle or building and not having it 'see' enough sky to function. If this is a new problem, it may simply have gone bad, but if new or still warranted, I would contact Garmin for an RMA.

Regardless of which GPS unit you use, finding sufficient satellites can be difficult if you are working in an area with trees/mountains/hills or other obstacles. Here are some suggestions to locking onto satellites:

1.) Mission Planning. If you think you're going to be working in a tricky area, but sure to check mission planning. This software allows you to input a location and obstacles, and gives you the times when satellites will be best.

2.) Wait. It takes the GPS units varying amounts of time to "find" satellites, but if satellites are visible, the unit should lock on within 5 minutes.

3.) Move. If possible, move into an area that has a clearer view of the sky.

4.) Face south. This is especially important if you are using the GeoXT. Turn the GPS antenna so that it is facing the southern sky. The majority of satellites have their orbit so that they appear in our southern sky. There are also satellites in the east and west, and almost no satellites to the north.

5.) Rotate around. If facing south doesn't work, slowly rotate the GPS around 360 degrees.

Do the following: 1 - Make sure you have fresh batteries in the unit and turn the unit on. 2 - Check the GPS date and Time. On the Main Menu at the bottom of the screen, you can see a date and time. If the date and time are not current, then the clock is your problem. You will have to wait for the almanac information to be updated. Details are below in a later section. 3 - Make sure your GPS is in the Normal Mode and not a demo mode. Verify other systems settings. Go to the main menu and click on Setup icon. From the Setup screen, access the System screen icon. Verify the following settings: GPS: normal WAAS: Enabled Language: English or your choice. Battery: Set according to your battery types. 4 - Check your GPSs Version Software. Go to the main menu and click on Setup icon. From the Setup screen, access the System screen icon. From the System screen, access the sub-menu icon in the upper right bar. Select "Software Version" from the list. Verify the actual software version for me. The latest version available for the eTrex Legend is version 3.90 dated March 2008. http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=711 Update the unit using this latest software and using Garmin's Webupdater. http://www8.garmin.com/products/webupdater/howtoinstall.jsp If that won't work, use the following download page to access the latest software updates per units. http://www8.garmin.com/support/blosp.jsp 5 - Resetting your GPS clock and almanac information Next you may need to acclimate your unit to a new date and time (almanac information). If you had your unit off and without batteries for over a month since you last accessed satellites, then your clock and almanac information may be incorrect. Even Garmin acknowledges this problem after software updates and the problem with accessing satellites. They state: "unit data including alamanac information may be incorrect or cleared. Back up all user data before upgrading. After installation is complete, place unit with a clear view of the sky for 15-30 minutes to re-acquire almanac data. " I know of no way to reset the clock using the GPS menus. All I can suggest is that you do the following: A - turn the unit on and wait 5 minutes or so for the "Poor Satellite Reception" screen to appear. See page 7 of the owner's manual. B - Set the "new location" to your area using the map when the "poor satellite reception screen" appears. Be sure to use the "map" option and not the "automatic". C - Set the GPS outside with a clear view of the sky. Check on it every 10 minutes. When the "Poor Satellite Reception" screen appears again, then click on "Restart Search". The "Restart Search" option is used when the date provided in the GPS is not today's date. (See page 7 of the Owner's manual for an example) Legend Owners Manual: http://www8.garmin.com/manuals/eTrexLegend_OwnersManual.pdf D - Once the GPS can track 4 satellites, then the clock should reset and you should be fine. This process could take up to an hour. I have had this problem with my eTrex Vista and eTrex Legend (both backup GPSs) and resolved it by having the clock reset. In fact, I just tried my eTrex Legend today after not using it for many months and storing it without batteries and it had this same problem. I followed the steps above to fix the problem. This took about 35 minutes.
