Re: we have no picture, just rainbow pinkish effect, no...
I have a Philips Matchine television which does a similar thing, the problem is in the receiver part of the set, where I have traced the Video signal with an Oscilloscope to a particular Chip (Integrated Circuit). By increasing the Contrast to maximum the picture can be brought back again, but still lacks contrast. The fault is varies as the chip warms up. Therefore you can locate the chip by cooling or heating it from a special non inflammable spray can.Have you tried the scart input which may work OK, then you can use the television as a monitor, as I do. Cost of repair is not worth it.

He may have caused some type of damage to the picture tube, but usually rainbow effects happen when magnets are present. Perhaps the ball became charged with a large amount of static, which then discharged across the tube, damaging the controlling circuits.
shadow mask is warped. tv might have been dropped. crt is bad(picture tube). try deguassing it. if you dont know what that is take it to your local service center. the rainbow effect is a magnetic field of some sort. try unplugging and move to a different location. could be a speaker too close to tv.
I have a large black square obscuring the picture. You can see the picture in 1 inch border around the black square. If I reset the input switch, the black square disappears for about one second (the picture is momentarily perfect) and the black square appears again. It is not the cable box because I wired the cable directly into the tv. The same thing happens when I try to play a DVD. Any insights????
it would intermittedly display a bowed rainbow effect and the picture would jump to that/black/back into focus.
it was nothing but due to change of place due to decaussing ckt to take care of magnetic effect of earth.
this morning i turned it on with a black screen. It has audio but no video.
your problem it sounds me that it is due to loose contact or loose connector or due to video ckt. as you said that sudio is ok.
if you are not tech person call skilled tech to fix it .it is not a major problem.
hope this will help you
please let me know what happened.
You have a bad connection on the CRT board thats mounted on the end of the picture tube it sounds like, or the socket on that board that plugs into the TV set is intermittant or has a bad solder connection on it. Good Luck
