Make sure there is no tape jammed in the mechanism anywhere and carefully clean around the whole tape compartment with cotton buds and isopropyl alcohol to remove any dust and debris, particularly on the opto sensors for read/write and tape present. If this does not solve the problem, try a different tape and if it does not solve the problem then you will need to get it serviced. This is a real pain problem in JVC’s and Panasonics and servicing (which may be costly) or scrapping is the only resolution.

Does your camera work of a Power Adapter? If it does, then the battery is most likely at fault. If however it will not, then it will be the camera.

I have an AXM17U camcorder that is showing EO3 and wants battery reattached. I have ussed two different batteries @ full charge with the same result..EO3. What's next?

E03 Take-up error
Most common in the Mini-DV models. This problem can be defective reel tables, or it can also be a defective rotary encoder. You can expect to pay intermediate to major labor for this type of repair. Parts are nominal.

The indication E-03 or E-04 is an Emergency Error Code. In the event of a malfunction the unit will shut down and display a code. This is to inform an independent JVC authorized service center which area of the camcorder to examine in order to ascertain the nature of the problem.

The E-03 or E-04 code relates to one of the tape spindles not turning. This could be the result of too much slack on the video tape. If E-03 or E-04 is displayed it may be possible to correct the problem by removing the tape slack. In order to do this follow these steps:

1) Remove power source for 1 minute.
2) Reattach power source.
3) Press "EJECT" (DO NOT PRESS POWER)
4) Repeat above steps until tape ejects.
5) Tighten and insert a new tape."

My cam. goes into e03 safegaurd mode please remove bat. and rehookup.when i do it plays again for about 5sec. and does it again

The mechanical section which consists of the tape cartridge and VHS-C tape plain has a timing misalignment. Check the inside for possible obstructions of the tape guides not fully sending the tape to the heads - sometimes it gets stuck. It will likely need to be taken apart to resolve the issue.

My camcorder goes into safeguard mode EO3 when I try to clean it.

I have had the same problem with a different model JVC. I haven't been able to fix it yet, but there were a bunch of people on a different forum that were able to fix that error code quite simply. With a tape in the machine, flip the lever to eject the tape, then as soon as you hear the motor start to whir, quickly close the door.
It didn't help me, but like I said, several people reported that that action fixed the EO3 error.

JVC GR DVL 9000 digital video camera EO3 problem?

In the case no REEL FG is produced for 4 seconds
or more in the capstan rotation mode after
loading was complete, the mechanism mode
is shifted to STOP with the pinch roller set off.
This error is defined as [E03].
However, no REEL EMG is detected in the
SLOW/STILL mode.
1. The idler gear does not engage with the reel disk well.
2. Though the idler gear and reel disk are engaged with
each other, the tape is not wound because of overload
to the mechanism.
3. No FG pulse is output from the reel sensor.
4. No power is supplied to the reel sensor.
5. Tape transport operation takes place with a cassette
having no tape inside.
6. The tape slackens and no pulse is produced until the
slack is taken up and the tape comes into the normal
status.
