Hello spudhansen, Pretty funny that i have the same issue on my HP laptop. what it is the sensor is loose in your laptop. Now you have 2 options a) open your laoptop and reconnect that loose wire or b) http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/contact_us.html contact hp and see what they have to say. What i do is just place my mouse on the side bar and scroll up and down that way. If this doesn't answer your problem please post again.
Please post what you do and how you did it. I look forward to your posts.

HP 2530p EliteBook - touchpad stopped working. Scrolling works except touch scrolling on right side of pad) and right button, but that's all. Wireless mouse works fine.

To access Mouse Properties, select Start - Control Panel - Hardware and Sound -Mouse.

Use Mouse Properties in Windows to customize settings for pointing devices, such as button configuration, click speed, and pointer options.

Touch pad scroll is not working

The reason why your cursor is jumping all over the screen is because you are touching it by mistake with your thumb or hand somehow. You can turn the sensitivity down ans set two finger scroll (and other options) for your touchpad - go to control panel > mouse > device settings >

If you do not have device settings, you need to download the official drivers and software to enable all features. The driver you have is probably the default win 8 generic one. Let me know the model number of your laptop and I can help.

From the sounds of it you have Caret Browsing enabled. You can disable it in in your browser (presumably Internet Explorer) with the F7 key or in the Page file menu.

HI

I would go to device manager
scroll down to find the touch pad
uninstall it

then restart laptop
hopefully when you restart windows will find new hardware
and reinstall the touch pad correctly

good luck

if not go to website and download another driver for it

Have a Satellite P 305D-S9800; scoll bar will not pull down by mouse or touch pad; as soon as I let go it jumps back to the top please help

The "Touchpad is very sensitive; if you look while scrolling, the "scroll-bar" will turn (Blue), click on the ("scroll-bar"), until it turn "Gray." Note: "You ca use the Pointer Device / Touchpad without using the Scroll-bar, basically anywhere on the screen; ("bottom scroll-pad" = left to right"), and ("right -side edge scroll-pad = up & down").

Hi, my laptop mouse pad works fine but at the side and bottom where i can use it to scroll down the page wont work, can sum one tell me how to get it back again, thank you

go to the control panel > mouse and pointing devices > go to device settings tab > highlight the touchpad listed and click on settings > look half way down the list where it say "scrolling" click on that and make sure both vertical and horizontal scrolling is checked. If it is and the scrolling still doesn't work,

go to control panel > device manager > scroll down to mouse and pointing devices > highlight the touchpad and disable it > wait 45 seconds, then re-enable it > hit apply and ok. Reboot

Acer Aspire 1640 laptop mouse pad does not work

Hit the Fn (funtion key) HOLD it down WHILE pushing the F7 Key - this will turn your touchpad back on.

For the complete manual for your computer:

And these instructions were found on page 25.
