Question about Hitachi Projection Televisions

Open Question

Blue rainbow on hitachi 65swx20b

I know this is a convergence problem with the blue gun, I have electronics experience but no schematic or component layout. I can repair, but have no idea what the component values are for the IC or the resistors feeding it, or location. Hitachi support on this is non-existant.

RK50 2.2 OHM 1 WATT
RK54 1.5 OHM 1 WATT
RK58 2.7 OHM 1 WATT
RK62 1.8 OHM 1 WATT

Double check the numbers on the STK chips as most of these sets use STK-392-110 OR 392-150 CHIPS-----ONLY A FEW OTHER MODELS(MOST 43 INCH USE THE 120 CHIP.)

How can i manually adjust the convergence on 60ux58k hitatchi

In my experience, the convergeance is set up using the test mode and then is stored in an EEPROM. If the convergeance has gone out of tollerence a vast amount, it is unlikely that the EEPROM has lost its data and more likely there is a bad connection on a component or indeed a failed driver transistor or I/C.
The only thing you can do by moving the guns is the static convergeance. If that is the problem, slacken off the fixings and adjust the blue, leaving a cover on the red gun so you only see green and blue. Whwen that is satisfactory, cover the blue and uncover the red doing the same. That is all you can do without the test mode setting.
Hope that helps and mind your eyes, it is bright!

Hitachi projection TV - video is in 3d rainbow

This sounds like a convergence circuit problem. Your set has two convergence IC chips (integrated circuit). One is for the red CRT, the other is for the blue CRT. This is a common issue with projection TVs. It is not a difficult repair if you have any experience with electronics and soldering. Both convergence ICs should be replaced at the same time. The part is IC (STK394-160E) and is available for around $36 or less. If you have a shop fix this they will likely charge $300-$400. If this information was helpful or if you would like to know how to do this repair in more detail post back on this thread. I would be happy to walk you through it.

Hello steveandlill,

I posted this before, however I believe it fits your problem too:

You have a convergence amplifier problem. This is a common problem inthese types of televisions. The fix for this problem is to replace thetwo convergence amplifiers in your tv. These amplifiers usually go badalong with the associated bias resistors. I would suggest that if youare going to do this yourself you should use only the manufacturerecommended replacement parts. There are many who will tell you toupgrade the amplifiers, but my experiences have told me this is moretrouble then it is worth, if you don't plan on redesigning the circuititself. So with that being said, here is the basic procedure:

1) Get a schematic for your set (to be used in parts location and alignment instruction)

2)Using the Schematic locate the STK329-xxx or STK392-xxx seriesamplifiers (They are the two large six sided components attached to alarge heat sink on the deflection board)

3) unplug the TV set

4) remove the deflection board from the TV set

5)using a soldering gun or iron with either a de-soldering pump orde-soldering braid remove the solder from the pins of the amplifiersand the associative biasing resistors.

6) remove the amplifiersfrom the heat sink and clean the heat sink off with alcohol or asolvent designed for removing the silicon paste.

7) coat the metal plate of the new amplifiers with heat sink paste and install them on to the heat sink.

8) install the associative biasing resistors

9) solder all of the components, making sure not to create solder bridges (short circuits) on the printed circuit board.

10) inspect the soldering job for bridges and cold solder joints (touching the joins up if they are cold)

11) reinstall the board to the television (reconnecting all cables removed.

12) power up the TV and perform the alignment instructions in the schematic

13) set the alignment of the TV

14) perform the magic focus setup

This should complete this task.

Now if you feel that you can not do these tasks, please consult a qualified TV technician about doing this for you.

I hope this helps

Thank you,

Start bt realigning the convergence by using the auto focus switch. If this doen;t work, you may have a bad convergence chip. Good Luck
