Question about Acer Aspire 3690-2196 Notebook
I've got this problem. when my computer running, sometimes my screen go white screen and i can't see at all to the windows, just white screen. but all function is ok so i press power button to force shutdown and start again with normal screen condition
what happen to my laptop..???
what is connection between white screen and hardware condition..???
Go to www.acer.com, choose Service and Support, choose Driver Download, choose Drivers & Downloads, select Product Line Notebook, select Aspire 4315, click Search.
The above should get you to here :
Click on "Flash BIOS v1.13 " which is the latest BIOS for the 4315.
Follow the instructions to download and extract the files.
In order to Run the Vv2-113.exe file, you will need to right-click on it and choose "Run as administrator"
Make sure your battery is fully charged before updating a BIOS and do NOT power off the laptop during the update process.
This seems to have fixed most of the white screen problems on the 4315 that I am working on. The Fn-F4 "standby" and power button (or FN key) "resume" process described earlier is worth remembering because I have still had a couple of the white screens with the latest BIOS. Both times seemed to be when the screen saver was trying to start (lots better than during the boot-up!), so I have changed from the Acer default screen saver to something simpler hoping that the change makes the problem less frequent.

Update to the latest Bios version...you will have to right click the bios updat executable and run as admin..or it will not run at all...(Vista)...then...go to Intel..download and install the latest vid drivers..(If your not sure how to do this..run the autodetect utility at the Intel site)....
White Sceen no more!!!

The best solution is to Download a program Called ''Screen Mode Switch". It's a program that lets you switch between screen resolutions by pressing keyboard combinations. Instead of having to shut down your PC or put to sleep you can save a lot of time by switching the screen resolution back and forth conveniently. It's the best and only software alternative. You can download the program here -> http://www.download32.com/screen-mode-switch-i60507.html

I am having this exact same problem, i updated my bios and it dosent happen as often but it still happens even when everything is working fine and your in the middle of doing something, i find that you dont even have to put the computer to sleep just close the lid and open it back up, it may actually be a loose wire as suggested earlier and i will check that out

I had the same white screen problem with my acer aspire 4315. as suggested in a similar blog, i tried opening the lid just just above the keys and "tightened" the IC connection between the lcd and mainframe.be careful not to short circuit any wire u see .It worked for me.it was just a loose connection which is common to acer aspire models. hope this would help some of you out there.

I have the same problem. It goes white randomly, even sometimes just when sitting there. Closing the cover and letting it go to sleep sometimes clears it up. Most times after trying that 2-3 times I have to use the power button for a hard reboot, which always works. The white screen happens several times a day, but sometimes its less frequent than others. There is no physical damage to the machine that I know of. I dread sending it for warranty repairs. Any ideas?

First things first, are there any cracks or visible damage on your lcd screen? do you think you've had the same button before the screen goes completely white? Check your screensaver and display settings to make sure it is not set on a white screen. Second, have you tried to reset your monitor using your screen controls such as brightness settings, contrast, colors, etc. Also, try to reset it to factory mode.
Lastly, is there a particular program you are using that occurs when the screen blanks out?
If all this checks out and is not the problem...use our chat live now, so we can further diagnose the problem with you to distinguish whether it is a hardware or software issue.

Tips for a great answer:

To run the check disk utility you will need a repair disc or
a operating system disc. Put the disc in the cd drive and boot from
it. You want to get to the Dos Command Prompt (Black screen with white
letters) and type the following command: chkdsk /r
Check disk will run well over an hour or two and you will notice the percentages going from high to low, this is normal. Let it run to completion. Then reboot machine.
If check disk fails to solve your problem you might have to reinstall windows. Try doing a Repair Install that way you don't loose your data, documents, music, pictures, videos or programs.
In windows xp you get to the dos command prompt by selecting R for repair when the options appear.
In Vista and Windows 7 you want to get to the recovery console and look down at the bottom of the window for the Dos Command.
