Burning oil just wondering if anybody knows of anything that will stop or reduce a motor burning oil?

  • montehammons Apr 10, 2012

I should have added, chris, find out where the oil is coming from first. It can only get into the cylinders from a very few places, from the bottom-past the rings, or from above-the valve openings, intake and exhaust, or conceivably a break in the head gasket.. And that's it. A valve job or cylinder head job (top end refresh, as Haynes sometimes calls it) is no big deal compared to a complete overhaul. But nothing will really help short of fixing it .I'd recommend a compression test on the engine. It may or may not tell you where the oil is getting in to burn, but it will certainly tell you if the overall condition of the engine is worth a few dollars in repairs, or not al all.

Not really. If your piston rings are worn down and letting oil into the top of cylinder where it can be burned, only an engine overhaul with new rings will stop it. Lucas oil conditioner products, Marvel mystery oil, anything like that might help a little, but won't stop the oil burning. Start saving money for a rebuild or replacement engine. Good luck.

2006 subaru forester burning oil

never-- I repeat never --use a used car dealer to do repairs on your car
The people employed are seldom qualified mechanics and they only know how to "bodgie" jobs just to get the car ready for a sale
oil will not leak from a head if the engine is running well , but oil will leak from faulty rocker cover gaskets
from your description, I suspect that when the car went in for the head gaskets a clapped out motor was fitted instead ( check engine numbers on the papers )
If you need a motor , there are plenty of good engines from japanese
engine importers
But at best do not have anything to do with that shop as the engine rebuild could be changing the engine back for your original motor

My '95 mighty max with 110,000 miles just had new cap and rotor, spark plugs and wires, and PCV valve. New battery timing belt "A" and "B". Timed to 7.5 deg with the timing...

If it is doing this only when you rev the engine after it has been idling a while, it is probably smoke from burning oil. A new set of valve stem seals will probably work wonders in reducing the smoke. Stopping the oil consumption will not only help it to pass a smog test but will also help to keep from damaging your engine and your catalytic converters. 110,000 miles is just barely broke-in for a Mitsubishi engine. However, the seals are probably cracked and broken due to the AGE of the vehicle.

Synthetic oil

synthetic motor oil is never a waste of anything some of it is truly amazing how it can protect surfaces and reduce friction. I'd use it. Expensive though.

2005 chevy impala rear driver power window stopped going up.stuck

If neither switch works it is a bad connection at the motor or bad ground or a bad motor. Remove the door panel unplug the motor push the switch and see if there is 12volts on the wires if there is the motor is bad There are small brushes in the motor that go bad tap on the motor while pushing the switch if it works that way replace it

If the motor is running good, try changing the pcv valve, as when they stop working properly, they can cause your motor to burn oil....
