From your start menu go to settings/control panel then go to the regional and language tab. make sure you set all the options in there to the uk, on the second tab (languages) go on details and add uk keyboard there, remove the us 1 and apply. it will tell you you need to reset for it to take effect.

hope it helps

How do I get into safemode on my acer aspire desktop

1 Restart the Acer Aspire netbook by pressing the "power" button on the netbook's keyboard or by pressing the "CTRL," "ALT" and "DEL" keys at the same time. 2 During startup, hold down the "F8" function key immediately when you see the "Acer" splash screen and the option for entering "Setup." 3 Keep pressing the "F8" key until the "Advanced Boot Options" menu appears. If you receive a "keyboard error," restart the Acer Aspire and repeat step 2. 4 Use the arrow keys to navigate to the "Safe Mode" selection on the "Advanced Boot Options" menu. The arrow keys are located on the right-hand side of the Acer Aspire keyboard. 5 Press the "Enter" key to execute the "Safe Mode" selection. The Windows operating system will now start in "Safe Mode" and you can perform a system restore or make needed changes to get your Acer Aspire to boot normally again. I have an acer aspire 5610 laptop. Some of the keys on the keyboard do different things to what the symbol on them represents: the @ symbol looks like its near the 'enter' key, but i have to hold down...

You have your keyboard set as US. If you go into control panel, open Regional and Language options and change all of the settings with a country to UK. That will solve your problem.

Acer aspire one running linpus lite is missing HAL and audio/ usb drivers. Also the keyboard doesn't work

Wow, sounds like you should get in there and config it.  Boot up a liveCD that loves your Aspire One (not Generic All Acer PC Desktops, thanks,) like Linpus Install or Knoppix, and have a look at /var/log/messages to see what it's problem is; then put it back to working order from whatever changed.

What makes you think HAL and audio/USB drivers are missing?  Are they not compiled into the kernel?  Versions and context, please....
