I am having the same problem- I believe the problem is getting the input on the 3801 to recognize the optical feed. When I plug the DVD into optical 1 I can hear the audio however that's where my tv audio is plugged in- I need to program the input jack for input 2 or 3 to recognize the optical signal. I don't remember how to get the denon to show onmy monitor.

Hello gerrydav, What might be happenening is the refresh rate for your blu-ray is offsync for your preferred display. You should be able to change it by plugging it into another TV and playing around with the settings. If you have further problems please feel free to post again.
Please post what you do and how you did it. I look forward to your posts.

RE: Denon AVR 3300 - I cannot get the system setup menu to display on Phillips P50PFP5332D tv screen? All connected components work and sound great, but I cannot see Denon's Setup menu on tv to a

I understand, it's something I've misunderstood on my denon avr-790 as well when connected to a samsung 8000 series led tv.
The answer isn't in the receiver's settings (you can be on whatever source you want on the receiver end when toggling the menu). You need to toggle through the tv's sources to find the menu (usually found on hdmi 1). I've spent towards an hour recently troubleshooting only to find that it was the tv's source that wasn't set properly and I was trying to change the receiver's settings instead of the tv's source.
Hope that helps!

Systems setup

Hii,

Try this out:

Go to the display settings in the settings menu. Pick HDMI for your video output and follow the steps to set your screen resolution. When I accepted the video settings I was taken automatically to the audio settings options. If you’re not given this option just go to the set audio output settings and enter this screen. Pick the optical connection and follow the screens choosing the audio options that match your receiver. DD and DTS.
At this point you should have video to your TV through HDMI and audio to your receiver through the optical cable.

Goodluck,

Poor DTS/DD5.1 from the AVR-3801

I also run 2 AVR 3801`s in my home, These are nice receivers, excellent build quality, about the DTS and DD 5.1 not up to par, I would check the Menu speaker set-up, be sure and make sure you have rear surrounds set up at surround speakers, NOT the rear speakers, they are for a 7.1 configuration, then set up the white noise test signal to balance all 6 channels, you need to have the powered subwoofer balanced properely, if no results of improvement then check your digital connections, I would recomment the fibre-optic, but the coaxial works also with great seperation signal, last I would investigate the playback unit of the DVD or DTS CD player, something in your set-up is amiss and you can acheive outstanding surround with this model of Denon, I can attest to this for my past experience setting up HT systems even with High End Outboard processors I always am amazed at the 3801 output quality, remember the 5 ch stereo is a Matrix DSP not even close to a true digital sound, and as for more amp power sure it always helps to have extra but the 3801 are true 105w @ 8 ohm 0.05 THD and are real, should power you Missions, the next level are denons 4800`s and 5800`s at 125 and 175 but I would stick with the 3800 and be content. Hope you have some better results after tweaking your settings.

You could try sticking a vcr/dvd player in between the connections and using those input/outputs instead.
