Question about Televison & Video

I cannot connect my philips vcr to my rca t.v.

They are both working fine but the t.v. asks me to set up the VCR, asks for the product name and I select it from a drop down menu, but it won't connect, it tells me to refer back to the manual. Unfortunately I don't have the manual any longer.

The cable is connected from the outlet to the TV directly;

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Just the one that we are trying to connect to the TV. We did prior to this, this T.V. is now our second T.V. The previous vcr was connected through shaw cable box and the standard connectors. That is what we are using now, just the standard connectors that you get with the VCR upon purchase.

Both the VCR or DVD player and the T.V. are "working" but they are not "reading each other" as the T.V. is requesting that we set it up through the menu.

Super8 asked for clarification whether a VCR was connected to our t.v. I have "posted" my answer. Hopefully you have received my comments.

We have a vcr player attached to the t.v. the phillips - brand new from walmart, both of them are in working order. The t.v. is connected to cable by just a connector; and the tv and vcr are connected by the standard cords that come with the player.

While I was entering the information on this website I realized that what I was trying to do was connect a "VCR" instead of a "DVD" player, and that was that. Our TV remote has two separate buttons one for the dvd and one for the vcr, because this is a dvd player, press the button and vola - so that was the solution to the problem.

Its kind of like, make sure your T.V. is plugged in before you call the repairman!

Thanks for your help.

My Samsung TV work fine. My RcA VHS VCR when I want to record the screen said WEAK or NO SIGNAL

VCRs use Channel three or Four to watch the tape. It is better if you use the video out on the VCR to go IN to the TV video In on a modern TV.
For record, the VCR cannot see Digital TV. You must connect the Digital TV box or satellite box Video Out to the Video In on the VCR.

I need to know how to hook up my vcr to my dvr to record something off of it onto a vhs tape. directv said i need to contact the maker of the vcr & guess what RCA doesn't help with that. but i...

Ok. You connect the vcr to the televison first. Take an rca cable and connect it to the video out of the vcr then connect the other end to the av input on your television. Then take another set of RCA cables and connect them to the RCA av input on your vcr and connect the other end to the output on your dvr.

Now hopefully your tv has another RCA input you can hook directly to the dvr with another set of RCA cables to another one of the dvrs outputs. If not then don't worry about that.

Now make sure the tv is switched over to the av video RCA input the vcr is connected to and turn the vcr on. The vcr should be in input and when it is you will see the picture from your dvr and you will change channels with your dvr remote. You can now record using the vcr remote.

MY RCA DRC 8320n DVD Recorder/VCR Combo will not accept tapes. DVD works fine. RCA help line is a joke. I will never buy another RCA product.

Yah, you're going to be taking that in for repair. I worked for couple of years at RCA / Sony / Panasonic / ... and 60 more names - service center. When a VHS Cassette loading mechanism doesn't work - it probably needs loading motor or loading gear, something repaired. At the cost of DVD and VHS combos these days I'd call it Not Worth Repair (NWR) out of the starting gate. At least $50 an hour, at least 2 hours ... that's beyond the cost of a new one.

I have an RCA converter box hooked up to an RCA TV and a Sanyo VCR. The TV and VCR are set on Channel 3. The converter box is set on Channel 4 and the TV is also switched to CH 4 when viewing digital...

Basically, you cannot use the coax connections for both the VCR and the RCA converter box. I would hook up the phono/cinch connectors from the VCR to the TV if you can (these are also called RCA connectors, but I'm avoiding using that name so we dont confuse the digital receiver with a cable/connector name that is the same here). There should be a yellow one for video and red/white ones for left and right stereo. I believe the RCA converter comes with a three headed cable that can do this for you. With this configuration, you can set the TV to input on these connectors and the VCR should always output there. Once that is set, you can still use the converter box to receive the signal from your antenna, then run the coax to the VCR. Now, the VCR will always have to be set on channel 4 in your setup and you will need to manually change channels on the converter box for it to record a show. Does this make sense so far?

Tuning VCR into Tv

Set the LCD to TV source and tune the LCD TV channel to 3 or 4.

For best viewing experience, you should connect the LCD TV to the VCR using component / SVideo or RCA cables instead of RF coxial to avoid signal loss. Your VCR manual should indicate these types of connections.

I'm not sure how to get the Game cube connected through the VCR/DVD player... the tv only has a cable screw in connection, not the color cables, I have already got it so the VCR is connected to the tv,...

Plug the game cube RCA (speaker type) OUT jacks into the VCRs video/audio IN jacks(RCA TYPE)--yellow is video. You may have to press the tv/vcr button on the vcr to get the picture to pass through--or change your vcr setting to AUX in. but this should work for you-if not let me know.
