You can reset the bios by taking out the battery on the motherboard (looks like a watch battery) leave it out for a few minutes then replace it again.

Have you tried changing the display.
Right click the desktop, go to properties or personalize if using vista, and check that the display properties is set correctly for your graphics card. Change the size of the display from in here.

I hopet this helps.

I was doing bios update in between bios update power failer no my laptop is not working its seem like dead so i need dv 4000(dv4251ea) bois file any body can help plz this is my email adress thankx

The bad news is you will likely need a motherboard repair. The reason why they suggest to have your laptop plugged in when doing a flash is that you could really damage the BIOS chip itself. Contact HP- at this point, it will likely need repair.

Im forget the password for bios setup ?

You need to remove the bios battery to reset the bios to defaults. With as complicated as some laptops are to take disassemble I recommend letting a professional in your local area do it. It should not be more than 20 or 30$

HP Pavilion DV4000 laptop screen only showing as 4:3 aspect ratio

Have you changed the resolution?
Go to control panel, display, settings, and make sure the resolution is set to more. Click on the advanced button and choose the tab for graphics or the graphics controller, choose properties, and adjust the screen area.
Please also consult this link recommended setting for HP notebooks. (click here)
If that doesn't do it, is there a possibility that the wrong driver has been installed. You can check the original product specs at hp.
