Different DVDs freeze while playing, at random times (the picture is still like a photo). They may continue after a few seconds on their own, or pushing "play" unlocks the freeze. Have cleaned discs, and used a commercial cleaner disc to clear the lens, without success.
Appreciate suggestions. Thanks.
If it's a very cheap unit, it's possibly because the machine can't process the information quickly or efficiently enough, thusly causing the picture to freeze up while the processing catches up with it. Friend has a $30 unit, which happens to constantly.

it might be that you are playing a dual layer dvd in the player. The player needs to focus on the second layer of the movie, and that might be why the dvd freezes. Leave it there for a while and the dvd should continue if it is this situation.
Change the location of the unit, this sounds like an overheating problem. It is too close to other units or is enclosed in a tight space. You may also try putting a small fan behind it to cool it down.
Sounds like youe unit is getting tired my freind. they dont make em like they used to. The unit most likly needs a tracking or focus servo alighnment, but to put it on a bench, and have a tech adjust the alighnments, will most likly exceed the cost of a new unit. The laser could also be getting weak, and the replacement optical assemblies for this unit alone cost about 60 bucks. Then you have labor and alighnment cost, as you don't just throw in an optical pickup assembly and it works. Good Luck
