WMV didn't work; Conerted the mov file to wmv, copied it to the SD card.. When the SD card is in the picture frame, mov files are listed in video mode and jpg files are listed in photo mode.

  • Loretta Adams Nov 16, 2008

Sorry for taking so long to reply. Was doing I thought it had, since the remote has a video mode button, and mov avi files are listed, but when selected, it saysNot supported...Guess what is not supported is video files and the whole video mode.

Thank you. Will show my videos a different way...

Sorry I took so long to reply, but I resorted to the fact that I can't play video on my SP8EMEF with Optipix Pro ( free copy with.) The SP8X frames use SPxpix (spelling?) software which coverts video files to play on the SP8X frames. Can I use SPxpix (*spelling?) on my SP8EMEF?

  • Loretta Adams Nov 21, 2008

Correct spelling of video supporting software - Syncpix....for SPX frames...

  • Loretta Adams Nov 22, 2008

I cant get Syncpix to try on my SP8EMEF. when I put in my serial number in the request to download Syncpix, I get Optipix, which is the software for my frame, and it only optimizes pctures and not videos.

And where my frame was bought do not sell the SP8X frames, so I might be stuck with it...

Your SyncPix™ digital picture frame will play video clips from many
types of digital cameras. The videos will play during the slide show. No
special video mode is required. Best results are obtained with QVGA
resolution (320x240).
Folders
Your SyncPix™ digital picture frame’s internal memory has folders in
which pictures, music and video clips are stored. The folder names
correspond to the names of the albums. When copying files to the frame
manually, be sure to place them into the appropriate folder. CAUTION: Do
not change the folder names or add new folders. Do not alter the two files
named cstatus.dat and syncpix.ini.
The picture or video file might be corrupted or of a format that is
not supported by the digital picture frame. Supported file types
include .jpg, .mp3, and .avi. Try removing the file that is causing the
problem.
Visit
www.syncpix.com to download the latest firmware version.

Try accessing the card through your computer, select the file then right click on it and select properties. now look at the format OR extention and make sure it says mpeg, avi , etc. and report back here.

Hi,

To my understanding, the Smartparts 8" Digital Picture Frame (SP8EMEF) only supports still digital picture files with a resolution of 800 x 600 pixels, about 2,000 of them.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

The avi files must be on a codec thats not supported by the Picture frame

Try a WMV file and see if that works.

How do you know if this plays videos? Im looking at the specs here and it mentions pictures and mp3 files. pictures / music. noting about videos.

  • Ekse Nov 16, 2008

    Hey,

It turns out I was wrong, open this tutorial page
    http://www.smartpartsproducts.com/conten...

it has instructions for how to play the video files

I double checked the user manual

    To view your videos

Highlight view your videos and press OK. Use the up and down arrow buttons to highlight the video clips you want to watch and press OK. to stop the video, press exit your digital picture frame can play video clips that are in the AVI MOTION JPEG format, up to 800x600 resolution and up to 40 frams per second.

  • Ekse Nov 16, 2008

you can download the user manual from here
    http://www.smartpartsproducts.com/conten...

  • Ekse Nov 16, 2008

Heres about the video format the frame supports

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motion_JPEG

Video from digital cameras should work instantly all other video must be converted into the MJPEG format for playback on the device.

  • Ekse Nov 21, 2008

I think so, give it a try.

digital photo frames are not usually able to play videos...

however if the frame has this capacity, it sounds like you have an encoding issue, you should check which codecs (encoding decoding) are compatible with your "frame" and change the configuration of your video encoding/recording system to use a compatible codec

yes avi should play on that.. but i think that kind of device(frame) is like some of the mp4s that includes avi in the features but will have problems playing avi type of files.... ... i dunno if this is useful coz i dont think i have the answers to correct it... maybe u can just convert the files in other filetype that your frame can read....

i read this from wikipedia

The AVI container has no native support for modern MPEG-4 features like B-Frames. Hacks are sometimes used to enable modern MPEG-4 features and subtitles, however, this is the source of playback incompatibilities.
AVI files do not contain pixel aspect ratio information. Microsoft confirms that "many players, including Windows Media Player, render all AVI files with square pixels. Therefore, the frame appears stretched or squeezed horizontally when the file is played back."[1] There are other video container formats that allow irregular shaped pixels.
More modern container formats (such as QuickTime, Matroska, Ogg and MP4) offer more flexibility, however, projects based on the FFmpeg project, including ffdshow, MPlayer, xine, and VLC media player, have solved most problems with viewing AVI format video files.

pls do update me if you've resolve the problem

Not supported message for video files

The problem is usually that the video has the wrong codec and the codec is unsupported by the picture frame. The frame rate won't have any effect.

You can try converting the avi to use another codec or to another format such as mpeg. Unfortunetly I can't find the codec to use. I looked on the Smartparts support for you as well and they don't show it.
You might need to call them to get that information. All they said on the website was that the information was in the manual. Looked there too and it just says avi.

http://www.smartpartsproducts.com/content/aboutus/contactus/index.php

That will get you to he toll free number and other support numbers.

Sorry not much help but should get you in the right direction to get it working.
