Question about Yahoo Mail

1 Answer

I cannot get thunderbird to access my yahoo mail account

Keeps giving error message that "sending of password did not succeed" and "invalid user/password". Have checked all settings & they appear to be correct. Using "pop.mail.yahoo.com" for incoming and "smtp.mail.yahoo.com" for outgoing mail. Ports set at 110 and 25 respectively. Using user name of bctobias & email address of bctobias@yahoo.com.

  • Anonymous Mar 26, 2014

My log-in name has been confirmed by Yahoo. Now, I am trying to create a new password for my Yahoo account. What I fill in meets all the criteria as all the green check marks appear underneath the box. Then when I submit the password, I get a red message that the password is weak and to create a stronger message.

I have been attempting this since last Sunday. Today is Wednesday. I have sent an e-mail more than 48 hours ago to Yahoo and received no response. I have phoned the customer care line multiple times only to be be cut off after waiting 10-15 minutes. I am repeating the process now and have been waiting more than 20 minutes.

To whom and where should I complain. The addresses you give in other solutions just lead to a round robin within Yahoo Help.

    Sincerely, Nona Claudia

I have been on the customer assistance phone line waiting now for over 35 minutes. I have been cut off three times before.

The problem is that in order to use Yahoo email on a Outlook, POP3 or HTTP, Yahoo asks you to get Yahoo Mail Plus. They are forcing you to pay for $19.99 for a year to be allowed a POP3 account to use for your Outlook 2003 and mail forwarding.

I've tried several methods, even trying HTTP: mail.yahoo.com

Ive even used software that said it would allow this. But no luck.

POP3 is only provided and activated by YAHOO when you pay for the yearly subcription.

Sorry. Thats really the only solution there is to this because yahoo controls their services to every user.

    I hope this helps.

I cannot access my yahoo email. i get a message invalid id or password which i know the password and id are right

Hi vspbas

I would request you to first enter the email ID and click on forgot password. There it is ask for security question which you have set at time of creating the yahoo account. If you able to answer the security question, you can gain access to you account successfully.

Let me know if you still have issues.

Yahoo logins don't seem to work, it keeps saying it's an invalid ID or password even though the info entered is correct. If I use the password helper it just keeps asking me to enter a security code.

T ry going to Yahoo's account password helper site: https://edit.yahoo.com/forgotroot

Follow the appropriate steps for your situation. This should solve most account related issues.

If this doesn't help, please post the client you're using (most likely Yahoo's client), the client version number, any error messages or relevant information and your version of Windows.

Please leave feedback if this was helpful. Thanks.

I am tying to set up yahoo account on thunderbird. i can send email but not receive.. i have tried changing server settings and port settings

Much more common is a sending issue. Often you have to send through your ISP server, contact them for what that server is, if you have sending issues.

I found directions for Outlook, which should be similar to Thunderbird:

Look closely at requires authentication settings....

Note: You must be a Yahoo! Mail Plus user to read Yahoo! Mail in an email reader program such as Microsoft Outlook. Click here for information about subscribing to Yahoo! Mail Plus.
To read your Yahoo! Mail Plus using Microsoft Outlook 2002 or 2003, follow these steps:
  1. From the Tools menu, select Email Accounts.
  2. Select Add a new email account and click Next.
  3. Select POP3 and click Next.
  4. Enter the following information:
    • User Information

Your Name: Type your name as you'd like it to appear when you send an email message.

E-Mail Address: Type your Yahoo! Mail Plus email address (for example, testing80@yahoo.com).
    • Server Information

Incoming mail server (POP3): Type plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com.

Outgoing mail server (SMTP): Type plus.smtp.mail.yahoo.com.
    • Login Information

User Name: Type your Yahoo! ID (your email address without the "@yahoo.com").

      Password: Type your Yahoo! password.
    • Select the Remember Password checkbox if you don't want Outlook to prompt you for your password each time you check your mail.
    • Do not select the Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) checkbox.
  5. Click More Settings. The Internet E-mail Settings dialog box appears.
  6. Select the Outgoing Server tab:
    • Select the My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication checkbox.
    • Make sure that Use same settings as my incoming mail server is selected.
  7. Click the Advanced tab:
    • Under Incoming Server (POP3), select the This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL) checkbox. The number in the Incoming Server (POP3) field usually changes automatically from 110 to 995. If it doesn't, type 995.
    • In the Outgoing Server (SMTP) field, type 465. Under Outgoing Server (SMTP), select the This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL) checkbox.
    • If you want to save your Yahoo! Mail messages on both the Yahoo! Mail server and on your computer, select the Leave a copy of messages on the server checkbox. If you want your messages to be deleted from the Yahoo! server once Outlook has downloaded them onto your computer, leave the box unchecked.

Note: After your messages are deleted from the server, we cannot retrieve them.
  8. Click OK to close the Internet E-mail Settings dialog box.
  9. Click Finish to close the Add New E-mail Account dialog box.
  10. Click Close to close the Account Settings dialog box.
Troubleshooting tips
If you still can't send Yahoo! Mail from Outlook, you might be accessing the Internet through an ISP that is blocking the SMTP port. If this is the case, try using port 587 when sending email via Yahoo!'s SMTP server. To make this change:
  1. From the Tools menu, select Account Settings. The Account Settings dialog box appears.
  2. Select your Yahoo! Mail Plus account and click Properties. The Change E-mail Account dialog box appears.
  3. Click More Settings. The Internet E-mail Settings dialog box appears.
  4. Click the Advanced tab.
  5. In the Outgoing Server (SMTP) box, type 587.
  6. Click Apply, and then click OK to close the Internet E-mail Settings dialog box.
  7. Click Close to close the Account Settings dialog box.

Problem to add ymail/yahoo account in Thunderbird

If you have a standard Yahoo! account (US), that does not allow direct access from email programs such as Thunderbird. (Yahoo does not provide the standard mail protocols -- POP3, SMTP, IMAP - which are needed.)

Yahoo does offer that access for its premium "Yahoo! Mail Plus" account. There is an annual fee of $19.99 for that service. See details at http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/classic/mailplus/overview/

However, there are some free work-arounds which will allow access to a regular Yahoo Mail account via Thunderbird

(1) WebMail - http://webmail.mozdev.org/
This is a free Thunderbird extension, which provides access to various webmail programs (including Yahoo). You'll need to download and install both the basic extension and the Yahoo plug-in; then follow the instructions to configure them for your Yahoo account. See details at

(2) YPOPs! - http://ypopsemail.com/
This is a POP3 gateway, which allows downloading Yahoo Mail into any standard email client (such as Thunderbird). You'll need to configure both the Yahoo settings in Thunderbird and the YPOPs program, so that they will work together.
See articles at:
http://ypopsemail.com/documentation/37-email-configuration/60-thunderbird
http://opensourcearticles.com/thunderbird_15/english/part_10

Hope that's helpful.

Hi

You have to check each settings that applies to yahoo mail server and compare it with the working account. You can also use windows live mail, you can download it from microsoft.com. Works like outlook express.

Hope this helps

They say my email is invalid

It may be that your account is shut down for a few days because Yahoo may have thought someone was trying to hack into it, in which case your account will be open again in a day or two.

If your account is simply GONE and you can't access any part of Yahoo, that's another story. You'll have to appeal directly to Yahoo if you believe your account was suspended in error.

Email Yahoo at these addresses:
Answers-abuse@cc.yahoo-inc.com
y_answrs_team@yahoo.com
cc-advoc@yahoo-inc.com (Y! Customer Support)
mail@cc.yahoo-inc.com (Email Support)

Contact Yahoo by phone:
Yahoo! Customer Service
866-562-7219

You can try leaving a message on the Yahoo! Answers Violation Notice Message Board (make sure to include the full Yahoo! Screen Name that was deleted) and within a day or two, a Yahoo employee will review your post and respond:
http://messages.answers.yahoo.com/answers/forumview?bn=SEA-ViolationsNotice

You can also fill out these "Online Help" forms, which lets Yahoo know that you're experiencing a problem, and wait for a reply from Yahoo Customer Support:
http://help.yahoo.com/fast/help/sg/mail/cgi_feedback
http://help.yahoo.com/fast/help/us/mail/cgi_access
http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/mail/yahoomail/general_f.html?

In order to receive communications from Yahoo when your Y!Mail account is inaccessible do to suspension or system error, you’ll need to provide them with an alternate “non-Yahoo” email address:
http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/edit/alternate_email/general.html?
