    Hello,

    My need is to find a solution to an annoying problem that I will explain to the best of my ability.

    I have an HP, Photosmart, C4385 All in one printer.

    I use it wirelessly through my Netgear, RangeMax, WPN824 v2 router.

    I have a HP, pavilion 544n, running Windows XP HOME edition with SP-3 installed.

    I get an error that states that my printer is offline almost every time I go to use the printer.

    I have to click on the error and a screens opens up in my HP Solutions Center v100.000.065.000 that displays a button to “FIX-IT’. By pressing it I get a new window opening that says it is “ON-LINE” with a big check mark.

    My question is there a way to correct this issue that will allow my printer and computer to work together to stay on-line ???

    HELP !!!

    Thanks,

    Mark Robinson

McAfee does alot of damage to computers, In my opinion it's junk. Get rid of McAfee completely and put something like ESET NOD SMART SECURITY or Something else besides norton and mcafee products.

  • Anonymous Dec 14, 2008

    Well, I am not sure what your operating system is but McAfee is totaly not compactible with Vista and I promise you it's going to cause nothing but problems consider finding someone else if you have vista for anti virus protection like ESET they are rated #3 this year and have excellent security. As well as uninstall your HP Photosmarts Printer software and restart your computer then reinstall with CD If you do not have a cd go ahead and download it from this site HP OFFICAL SITE -> http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softw... It's going to prompt you with what operating system you have go ahead and choose your Operating System then from there go ahead and download the full install driver. Hi,

Initially, pls try:

  • reinstalling the driver/software but with the antivirus temporarily disabled/turned off;
  • in Device Manager, disable the Power Management of all the USB Root Hub by un-checking the "Allow computer to turn off this device to save power;
  • check the 4385's Properties and determine if there is a auto shutoff/powerdown/timer feature. If yes disable.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

    Hi again,

    Any development(s) so far?

  • Anonymous Nov 18, 2008

    Hi,

    May I offer alternate possibilities and/or ideas as it would seem that the system and configurations works. It just cuts out every now and then:

        RFI (radio frequency interference). Are there any wireless phones or radio devices within the immediate vicinity of the printer or the router? If yes, pls try relocating or switching off to test;

        try locating the printer closer to the router;

        as stated earlier, pls double check if the printer has any power saving mode (auto shutoff/powerdown/timer feature).
    Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

Try a replacement cable.

If that does not help, unpluyg printer USB cable, and install the software again from printer software CD.

    Some common reasons why you lose contact with a wireless networked printer frequently and for no apparent reason.

    1 The ethernet cable connecting the printer to the router is defective or suffers from external disturbance. Try a short ethernet cable to test the printer, if it stays online replace the cable.

    2 For some reason the server is re-assigning printer's IP or assigning the printer an invalid IP.
    This often happens when there is an IP conflict.

    A wy to fix this is by buying a print server and connecting it to the router. The network will use print server IP : Linksys Wireless-G Print server

    3 The network card on the computer has bad reception or is faulty, replace the wireless card, possibly with a more powerful one.

I would suggest to completely uninstall the printer from your computer and all software that came with it, then do a fresh install from the cd or download the latest software from the internet. if you need a link, let me know.

Printer is offline & will not print ... not even a test page.

First, make sure that the printer is properly connected to the computer and it's turned on.

Go to Control Panel > Printers > right-click the printer icon > select "Use printer Online".

Make sure the clear the pending documents on the queue before trying to print a test page.

Photosmart 2575 printer is offline - won't print

Hey jonboy - You do not want to delete it. It is automatically installed with Vista. In simple terms, you know when you go to print something and it asks you questions like print all pages, print page 1, etc? Well XPS basically is there for so when you go to print, you have the option of printing to a file instead of paper. You've always had that option ( whether or not you knew it) but this is just a new way of doing it and that's why it's listed under printers. It's sort of like a virtual printer. I'll say no more about that and just hope you understood what I said. As far as the other printer, it's already selected as default, go back in where you found the printer status, right click on your Photosmart and click on use online. That should do the trick.
I hope you understood this stuff. If this solves your problem PLEASE rate this as fixed. If you still have a problem, DON'T RATE it yet just add a comment and I'll be happy to assist you further. Thanks.

Hp printer 5420 photosmart

sadone:
I assume all hardware connections are fine, and any lose cable connections are already checked then......

1)Send a test page to the printer Open up the print jobs, and try deleting all jobs (click on the printer from printer and faxes under control panel, delete all print jobs, Still in this window click printer and uncheck the print offline, does this help?) if not then

2)Try uninstalling and reinstalling the printer driver and then try printing a test page.

3)Try uninstalling and reinstalling the printer software and driver and then try printing a test page.

If nothing works then:
-Uninstall all printer software, driver unplug and reseat an original hp cartridge and go this link install software and driver and follow instructions on how to install the drivers, at the end click the check button to see if driver is fine. Now you should be able to print.
