Question about Office Equipment & Supplies
just found this site in a search for help with my Epson printer and I see that it is suggested that ink pads/tank are cleaned/replaced and counter reset with a bit of software -- this sounds like good news and a lot cheaper than running out and buying a new printer!
Please could you clarify for me whether it is pads or tank in this model as I have come across 2 different links offering slightly different solutions to the problem on this site, one from an Ebay seller of tanks and one with just a bit of software -- I'd like to make the right choice straight off ;)
Many thanks for you time
The best solution is to reset the counter and then clean the ink pads. ONLY AFTER RESETTING THE COUNTER is a tank of ANY use. Fitting a tank WILL NOT FIX THE ERROR.
The ONLY solution I have found that you can buy on the internet to fix the error that says something like "parts inside your printer have reached the end of their life" is the solution in the link below. There are other solutions available such a thing called the SSC Utility, but I know there are reports that the SSC Utility can write bad information to the firmware and thus wreck the printer. The solution in the link below is the nearest you can get to a guaranteed safe solution:
If after using the above fix for the R220, you wish to add a waste ink tank, then feel free. However fitting a waste ink tank WILL NOT STOP THE ERROR coming up again. The error is caused by the firmware in the printer counting the amount of ink used and pumped into the waste ink pads in the base of the printer. Even if the ink is pumped into a tank instead of the waste ink pads, the counter still counts the ink. The ONLY THING YOU SAVE with a tank is replacing or cleaning the pads. In my opinion, the tank is waste of money. You can easily rinse the pads out all you have to do is get to them. You can also make your own tank from a small empty jar and length of tubing available from an aquarium store.
