Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I've got an Hp laptop with a keypad attached to the right of the keyboard and when I hit the "num lock" button some of the letters on the keyboard change to typing numbers, and the keypad types numbers as well. how do I change it so that with num lock on the keyboard will still type letters and the keypad will type numbers? I've tried function about every button on the keyboard and nothing is working.

You have to configure the hot keys functions. you can do this on the accesibility option under control panel.

Sounds like the keyboard is in NUM LOCK mode

They keys map like this:

7 8 9 = 7 8 9
u i o = 4 5 6
j k l = 1 2 3
0 . = m .

Look for the NUM LOCK key on your keyboard.

Typically, you press the FN key (lower left corner) and the NUM LOCK key (typically towards the upper right) together to put the keyboard back into regular mode.

I have an Asus X58L laptop, For some reason there is a letters lock and I do not know how to unlock it. So if I press letter u it gives me 4, if I press p it gives me - and so on, unless I press Fn button

It sounds like you have the num lock switched on, most laptop keyboards are too small to have a separate numeric keypad so use the letter keys on the right side of the keyboard for this. (you should note numbers as well as the expected letters on the face of these keys).

To turn off the num lock, hold down the Fn key and press Ins. (located top right of the keyboard).

The keyboard on my laptop has numbers and keys on it

Hi,
It sounds like the Num Lock is on.

Depending on the make of the laptop there is a few different ways to turn it off.
Either just hit the Num Lock key and see if it goes off, hold down Fn and hit the Num Lock key or hold down the shift key and hit the Num Lock key.

Regards.
