Question about HP Photosmart C4280 Aio Printer

1 Answer

Carriage jam I keep getting a message that says "carriage jam" but there is no jam. I tried restarting my computer, opening and moving ink, nothing seems to work. It is a HP C4280 All-in-one. I got it just over a year ago with my New MAC.

I have the same problem. Sometimes, out of the blue, paper keeps jamming up. This printer has given me problems from the moment I bought it

I too have had this problem on occasion. I just open the back of the printer and then close it and all is fine.

I just changed the (2) ink cartridges in my HP PCS 1610 All-in-One HP printer and now get an error message "CARRIAGE JAM - OPEN DOOR. CLEAR CARRIAGE JAM, AND THEN PRESS OK." I don't see any jam...

Have you tried moving the carriage to see if it really is jammed? Maybe you haven't put the levers down properly on your new cartridges....remove them, see if the carriage slides, then refit them and check the carriage again. You wont visually 'see' a carriage jam,; you have to try moving it. By the way, if it doesn't move, DONT force it to try and overcome the jam try and reason out why it doesn't move.
Hope this helps!

Carriage Jam Error Message

Carriage jam error happens when either the clean station is gummed up and not moving toward the rear properly, or when the encoder strip gets covered with ink or grease. The strip you can clean with water and a Q-tip, the clean station can be cleaned with water, but you have to take the covers off to get to it.

Carriage jam means the carriage, where you put the inks, can't move right to left properly. Sometimes ink on the clear strip behind it is the cause. You can carefully clean with damp Q-tip, and check also that the cleaning assembly on the right where the printhead parks, is not stuck.

yes, that is a carriage jam and not paper, the grinding is from the clean station that gets blocked with dried ink and cant move. you need to open the printer and clean the ink off of the clean station so it can clean properly and not cause a carriage jam.

I keep getting an error message on my printer for a CARRIAGE JAM. THe message says to open door, clear carriage jam and press OK to continue. I've followed the HP steps and no luck. Can anyone help?

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

If you have verified that there is no obstruction, nothing preventing the carriage from moving, then most likely fault is dirt, ink smudge or bits of paper on the encoder strip. The encoder strip would be the narrow long plastic strip with barcode like markings. These has to be clear in between markings as they serve as guide for the carriage to tell the printer where the print head is. Cleaning could be done with a soft cotton cloth that leaves no lint.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

Epson R320 carriage jammed

The ink cartridge is probably not inserted correctly.  Unplug the printer and manually move the carriage to a location where you can take the ink cartridge out.

Remove it and reinsert it, making sure that it is fully located, before applying the power.

Make sure that there is nothing blocking the carriage movement, such as some remnant of paper.

Carriage jam message

I had this same problem and spend hours working on it. Took the side panels apart to get a better look. Nothing anyone said fixed the issue. Not even the link everyone keeps posting to HP's carriage jam fix. Was out of solutions and about to give up and order a new printer. There was one last thing I had to try that I didn't think was going to work, but I had a theory. Right after I tested this solution it started working again. This worked for me, but anyone who has tried every and have not got their printer to work can try it.

My Solution: Open the front covers and look inside. Just above the metal rail that the carriage travels on there is a thin plastic strip about 1/4 in. width and should have a glossy shine to it. I believe this is some kind of positioner. It runs through the carriage and gives it some kind of position. After years of use, it'll become dirty with ink. I used some tissue and alcohol and wiped the strip clean. It worked perfectly fine right after. Below is a picture of the strip I underlined with a yellow line.

Is iot on the position where you can install the ink cartridge? try turning it off and unplug it from power supply then after 10mins replug and turn it back on. keep me posted, but if it will do the same thing chances are there is something wrong with the belts on it, better have it fix or have it check.
