Question about D-Link Air Plus DP-G310 (dpg-310) Print Server

1 Answer

I cannot print using DP-G310 print server connected via switch to the HP Laser Jet P1005 printer. All the configurations are ok ,but i still wonder what is happenning. When i connect the printer direct to the PC usb port it prints, and when i get it back to the print server usb port it prints, but after a few seconds it stops printing unless you get it back to the PC usb port then back to the print server usb port.So the process goes on. I've tried to do some troubleshooting without any success. There is this one thing called native Dos Mode I think this printer does not support it. P'se assist me on this because my project has been delayed because of this.

Sorry but P1005 does not come with its own processor to work of a Print Server, it needs PCs processor to process the printed file and send it in a specified format to it. This makes it cheaper for HP to make printers and sell at a margin because their is no processor in them. You have to get a printer which has a processor to work with a Print Server for instance look for Hp 1300 or HP 1100 series

Wireless print server not compatible with HP printer ?

unfortunately, psc4280 is not listed under the list of compatible printers for DP-G310.
Check it on this website http://support.dlink.com/supportfaq/
Browse your product to the left of the page then click on go. then click on compatible printers to the left of the page.

Ask hp if they have a port that you can open up on the router.

Hp 1020 dp-300u

dont' worry about what the d-link site says. its because they haven't tested it. i got my dp-301u to work fine with my hp1020 on 2 different workstations with the following steps.

1. install printer locally via usb and test.
2. create a second printer as per the dlink manual creating a port. don't worry about the name as we will delete it.
3. once created go into the properties of the 2nd printer and change the port to something local - anything will do to free up the port.
4. go into the properties of the printer that was created in step 1. and change the port to that of the print server.
5. test print. should work fine.

cheers!!

HP LJ P1008 can be used as network printer ?

I have one of theses D-Link PD-301U. It does NOT support a printer like yours. According to D-Link's Web site, here are the HP Laser printers it supports (note the P1008 is NOT in the list):

LaserJet
  • 1200
  • 1500 (USB 2.0)
  • 2200
  • 2200D

Configuring a Mac Book Pro laptop with a DP 300U Print Server

    I connected my HP5MP to the DP-300U LPT1 port.
I configured my port on the DLink Configuration tab, giving it a name "hp5"
...The default login is at http://192.168.0.10/ user:admin pass:(there is no pass by default)

On my Mac, I go to System Preferences > Print & Fax
Click the + to add a new printer
    Select the IP option
Choose the Protocol: Line Printer Daemon - LPD
    Type in the Address: 192.168.0.10
    Type in the Queue: hp5
Print Using: Generic PostScript Printer or better yet, 'Select a driver to use...'
and find the driver for your HP LaserJet 5MP.
Save it. Works like magic. ;-)

If you change the IP address or password on the DLink, just CYA and write it all down on a sticky note then tape the note under the DLink chassis. There's no reset button on the thing, and if you're o a Mac, you won't necessarily have access to the Windows utility to jack with the DP-300U. So, write it down, kidd-o!

Does your network have a dedicated computer server and the printer is attached to this server or is the printer attached to a dedicated print server device?
    OR
Does a computer on your network shares its printer with other computers on your network?
There is insufficient information on how you configured your printer setup for me to give you a proper answer to your problem.

    Wireless laptop not printing

Indeed, you don't need the print server. Since your HP 6310 already has an integrated network port, you may setup and use it on your laptop the same way you do with your desktop. If you can browse the Internet wirelessly with your laptop, you should also be able to print.

Have you installed the new drivers for your HP?

Personally, on all HP Printers, I use only HP products, mainly Jetdirect Print Servers, but you might try creating a TCP Port Printer (via your Printer Install Wizard) and use that. You only need to know the IPAddress of the DLink and the Drivers for the HP Printer.
