I had the exact same problem and paid $59 for a repairman to come out and tell me that the motor had seized up from a buildup of lint within it. There was nothing that we could have done to prevent it. It just happens over time, and the motor must be replaced which will probably cost at least $200, so we're just going to buy a new dryer.

Possible you blown the thermal overload fuse located on back wall of unit behind rear panel, small 2" long saftey fuse, if blown will prevent dryer from operating

Kenmore dryer not running

Ticking sound is the timer running--so it is not the problem unless a contact has failed or a wire has come loose.  Broken door switch, thermostat failed in open position, or clogged lint filter/exhaust vent/outlet would keep unit from running.  If you can hear the motor running but the drum is not turning then the drum belt is broken.

Dryer Won't Start

Make sure it has power. Then:Check the door switch. A little lever sticking down through top right of door opening. If it is not there you will need new door switch(sometimes the little lever breaks off). If it is there and does not click when you press it in you need a new door switch. if it clicks when you close the door then you have a bad thermal fuse. The thermal fuse is found by taking the back of the dryer off. The fuse is an oblong white plastic piece with 2 wires attached.

Door switch part number 3406109
Thermal fuse part number 3392519

Do you hear the timer ticking?
Make sure there is 220 volts present at the terminal where the cord hooks to the dryer.
Inspect the wires for loose or burned.
Check continuity on the door switch.
Check continuity on the start switch.
