Re: unable to get game on
by game on are you referring to starting up a game or going to the ps3 home menu? If you are able to clarify the problem a bit more I will be more than happy to help.

Your PS3's problems are actually being caused by a connection error between the hard drive and motherboard. Without a correctly working hard drive connection your PS3 is unable to function and goes into shutdown mode, with the flashing red light warning .
This is usually caused by a bad laser. Try cleaning it first to see if that helps. If it doesn't then it will need to be replaced. Check out www.wiredextreme.com or call 214-222-5788. All of our repairs come with a 90 day warranty.
listen just hold down the button, i'm not sure how long like you hear 2 beeps then 3 or something and it will take you to a screen with 6 or so options - choose restore file system, you shouldn't loose data if your lucky, anyway i had a very similar problem and my ps3 sat for a year before i was smart enough to figure this one.
its a bug in the update (3.00/3.01) you arent alone with this problem, im one of them to, so im in the same boat as you.
So far theres no fix for this, and theres only 3 things you can do.
1. Call Sony and have them replace your faulty unit. (not free. (can be free if you have warrenty)) 2. Replace the Blu-Ray unit yourself. (you will lose your warrenty if you do this. if you still have any) 3. Wait and hope Sony gonna release an update that fix the latest update. (probaly a 3.02)
First thing you should try is using the regular old AV cables. That way we know if it's an hdmi problem or a video problem with the PS3. Hook them up, do the manual video reset ( hold down the power button until you hear a second beep, quickly release) and then post back here with the results.
Yeah, sony is going to tell you to send it in. Little bit of advice though, I was reading somewhere to NEVER turn the machine off while a game is running in it from the back. I always go to the game menu and go to "quit game" and then from the XMB menu go to "quit game", then go to "turn off system", then turn the switch off in the back. After reading some of the "horror" stories I don't want to have to pay $$$ to get a new ps3 because of some glitch in the system. But I would if I had too because microsoft sux. I am installing linux on my ps3 right now to see how that pans out, but I think you fried it buddy
if your system is only 5 weeks old PS3 factory warranty covers all defects in materials and workmanship for 1 year from purchase date. there are some inclusions and exclusions which can be accessed at http://www.us.playstation.com/Support/PS3/Warranties
but if you have any implied warranties from the store you purchased it at you should hit them up first to see what they'll do for you
