Although open shields on the head unit generally cause MTX amps to squeal, it can sometimes cause the symptoms you described. To check the shields, you will need a multimeter. The procedure is on the following page:

Testing for Open Shields on RCA Signal Cables

If the shileds are OK, we will have to check a few other things.

I have a few problems. i have 2 amps and 4 subs. first problem is when i connect one amp to my speakers it just hisses and crackles. this never happened before. when i turn up the gain to try and get...

The first amp, sounds like there is straight power going through the gain instead of it being limited. The second amp...hook the other subs up to it and see if it sounds ok. If so, then the subs are messed up. If it sounds the same, make sure the subs are connected correctly.

My mtx thunder 1501d car amp making noise in the subwoofers

This is common with pioneer head units, the rca jacks are not properly grounded and this lets engine noise come through the rcs cables. This thread explains a fix http://www.caraudio.com/forum/showthread.php?t=337644.

Does the woofer move in and out in relation to the movement of the gain control?

The 1501 is very similar to the 81000 but there are important differences. The 1501 is a better amp.

If you turn the gain up and down, does the woofer move in and out in direct relation to the rotation of the gain?

What do you mean by "you only feel current going through subs"?
