With the Kodak 5300 the print heads are separate from the ink tanks and when you have printing issues where you have lines or the quality is poor you need to clean the print heads or in worse case scenario you would have to replace the heads.
Here are the steps to clean the heads:
To clean the Printhead from the control panel on the printer:
Press the Menu button to display the Main Menu.
Press the down arrow until Clean Printhead is displayed, then press OK.
For a basic clean, make sure Basic Clean is selected, then press OK.
For a deep clean, press the down arrow until Deep Clean is selected, then press OK.
To clean the Printhead from the KODAK All-in-One Home Center Software on your computer:
Start the home center software.
If the Help toolbar is not open, click the Help (?) icon in the upper-right corner of the window.
From the Help toolbar, select Maintenance.
Click Printhead Cleaning, and wait for the printer to complete the cleaning.

Check the paper path. It sounds like you might have a piece of debris laying down a line of ink when the paper goes past it. If that doesn't fix it, you might need another printhead. Kodak replaced mine without any problems.
You need to clean the printhead of the printer to solve that issue. Because everytime you print, excessive inks are going to the printhead that's the reason why it's clogging the system up. That's because Kodak printers is using "pigments" as inks that's why Kodak printers are producing high quality prints unlike other printers - a photo printed from kodak could actually last for about 100 years. Now back to your issue, you need to clean the printhead from the printer but not manually. You could clean it by going to the software of the printer namely the KODAK HOME CENTER SOFTWARE. You need to click the "?" mark icon on the upper right corner of the software window then under the General Links select Maintenance then choose Clean Printhead. Do it at least twice and then try making prints. If that still doesn't work try calling Kodak Technical Support Representative: 1-800-421-6699
More than likely doris you have an issue with the black text not printing. Press copy and photo at the same time. Look at the eyes of the kids in the picture. They're probably all white. Clean the printhead from the main menu. A deep clean. Print another demo. If it comes out the same, you need a new printhead. Call Kodak.
