Question about Dishwashers

1 Answer

Upper & bottom arms are not turning even though the motor seems OK, pump for draining seems OK too. rcently I changed the pump kit plus some gasket and seals. My Maytag is about 14 y\old and was very good for me untill I changed the parts. Could it be a weak motor \pump. The water splashes very much in the machine but no arm turning!? Help me thank you Ben

Hi Ben, had the motor impellor shattered in the old pump ie-chunks broken off ? if so there is every possibility that these pieces have lodged in the wash delivery pipework at an elbow or indeed at the arm boss itself -i would try to check as much of the pipework as possible because this would definately reduce your final pressure at the arms, good luck KIT

Water fills the bottom of dishwasher, lower spray arm still seems to turn/spray but no movement or water coming out of uppoer spray arm. We took apart the lines to see if there was blockage -- none.

If there is no blockage, your pump may need to be rebuilt or replaced. If your machine uses a solenoid valve to control weather the pump is washing or draining. The drain valve may be stuck somewhat open, diverting wash water down the drain. Or the wash valve may be not opening fully. Different machines work in different ways.

Whirlpool awo d 4305 s draining problem clothes left soaking

Ok, replaced waste pump - slight improvement but clothes still bad... only just seen your solution Mike!!! I didn't even notice a spin control board there, I will check/swap it tomorrow as I've only just put everything back in place(incl. kitchen cupboards etc!).
Is this a common problem with this model?? There's a mountain of appliances near where I work and I'm free to take whatever I can find, I'd say some people just buy a new machine without even checking if the filter's blocked looking at some of these appliances!
Thanks all!

Upper tray does not wash clean, bottom does

The problem is hard water. There is a new product out called the dishwasher filtration system. It filters the water before it enters your dishwasher. It works amazing and has a money back guarantee. You will love the way your dishes look after the first load. It is also very affordable (like 70 bucks). Go to www.dishwasherfilter.com to find out more info.

My Bosch dishwasher, S9J1F will not clean things properly, I've changed the arms, cleaned it. I think the arms don't seem to spin properly, (I bypassed the door switch so I could see them spin)I have tried...

not enuff water in it or pump blockage or bad pump impeller. if you ran it with the door open even if the arms didn't turn you should have got drenched is the bottom covered with water about 1 inch deep some times the fill valve screens get clogged and don't let in enuff water if plenty of water in it look for somthing in the pump

Motor makes noise shortly after starting, makes normal sound level during main body of wash, then makes noise again during what I'm guessing is the rinse cycle. Not sure if it is a pump or motor problem....

Make sure the sprayer arm is turning freely, check for something stuck in the base of the sprayer arm (food or utinsel) preventing it from turning.

Upper rack is not cleaning. Greasy dishes on top seem that dishes are not being washed. Seems the upper water turning dispenser is not working, Bottom rack seems ok. I guess I only have half a dish washer...

Check the upper arm for free spinning, then remove the arm and check that the seam between the upper and lower halves has not split somewhere. Also check all the small holes for debris plugging. Run the machine in wash cycle for a little while with the upper arm off--that should flush out anything blocking the pipe up to the arm. If still nothing from the upper arm, tear down the lower arm assembly down to the deck while noting position of all parts removed. Clean the big screen at the bottom in white vinegar and hot water. Inspect the holes in the bottom for anything blocking them.

Does not pump water during the wash cycle.

It sounds like you are on the right track.

Open the dishwasher, remove the bottom rack, then remove the thumb nut in the middle of the unit that secures the lower wash arm and housing. Look for debris and clear any you find. Try again. If no joy, you will have to repeat the first step and also remove the wash pump upper housing that is secured with torx head screws. Same thing after you remove it - look for debris in the impeller area and remove it.

If you have to remove the wash impeller, you will need a 1" offset box wrench and as I recall a 1/4" socket. The 1" offset box wrench is needed to keep the impeller from turning while you remove the center nut. You will also need to remove the upper discharge line retainer clip to get that out of your way. Inspect the impeller for any debris and especially cracks or missing blades. If the impeller is damaged it will need to be replaced.

While you have this thing apart, check the lower wash arm and upper wash arm discharge pipe assembling for any obstructions.

I am assuming the motor runs ok and the timing cycles seem normal.

Upper spray arm is not turning round even though water is coming through. We have checked the internal system for blockages and the machine is filling / draining as normal. When a full programme is run,...

I found the problem to be neither blockages of the upper arm or roof spray arm or the upper basket arm hitting the the back of the dishwasher. the problem was that the pump inlet where the food scraps are macerated was blocked with all manner of gunge including small chicken bones plastic and other detritus. Removal of the macerator housing under the upper filter housing using 2 different sizes of torx driver easily fixed the problem. Probably why the upper dish rack cleaning degraded overtime, Directly proportional to the amount of detritus blocking the intake screen behind the macerator.17a8801.jpgb9e8fa8.jpg789f2b8.jpgfb7a626.jpgator. Spins very slow on rinse/drain and spin

Your filter &/or pump could be blocked. Remove bottom panel three screws, unscrew filter cap (have lots of towels cause it will drain), remove filter & clean out. Refit. If you have manual refer to it. Pl rate me if helped.

Dishwasher appear to be clogged

It could be a motor or a pump issue. The dishwasher has a motor that attached to a pump which forces the water up into the sprayer arms and during the drain cycle, it pushes the water out of the dishwasher. The motor (and pump) located beneath the dishwasher. Check if motor spins. In case it spins, the problem is with the pump ,in case it doesn't spin it could be a motor problem or a motor and pump problem. Good luck
