Re: Vent fan noise

I'd say the bearings are getting dry. I'd hit it with a a drop of 3-in-1 oil or sewing machine oil. If you don't have the owner's manual, you can download one here: It's also possible that the keeper which holds the fan blade assembly may be broken or loose. That could cause the fan to slip and rub. Either way it will have to be disassembled to a degree, probably starting with removal of the grille. Exploded views of this model may be helpful. They can be found at this site: Under 1 select "Repair Part", under 2 select "Microwave" and click "Go". A window will pop up and you'll enter your (complete) model number. Good luck.

Microwave fan/vent is excessively loud. How do I

Most vent hood fan motors don't need any maintenance. Over time, the motor and bearings may become stiff because of the constant heat, humidity, and grease to which they're subjected.

Also over time, the blower wheel gets greasy and dirty, which can slow down the fan or cause vibration. Remove the wheel and clean it with a degreaser. Then, if the fan is still slow or if it vibrates, you need

Microwave ovens heat by bombarding the food or liquid in the oven with super-high-frequency microwave sound energy. If there's no food or liquid in the oven to absorb the microwave energy, the energy can feed back to the microwave itself, which can permanently damage the internal microwave antenna (magnetron).

GE Spacemaker XL1800 JVM1850CH01 vent fan won't turn on

Unplug for about 5 minutes and allow to reset. If the problem persist, you might want to try replacing the control panel (the one that have all the numbers and timers). Good Luck!

GE Profile PVM2070SM3SS. Stuck in "Demo Mode" Turntable moves, light goes on, no heat. Main keyboard changed 3 months ago.

This may seem crazy... But, I had the same problem, and the only thing that works is to put the exhaust fan on, then microwave. Only then will it actually heat. Now the vent button just broke and pushed in. Ahhhhh

My Sharp carousal microwave model R 1482 goes on and off on its own. When cooking the steam from boiling water will set the micro off like I am pushing buttons on it.

If it's just the hood vent exhaust fan coming on, that's normal due to a temperature sensor (the hood vent exhaust TCO / thermostat).

If other functions on the microwave are coming on, then the keypad and / or controls may be shorting due to moisture and / or heat, and that needs to be addressed.

You should always run the microwave oven's hood vent exhaust fan whenever you're cooking on the stove top.

If you do, and the trouble persists, I would suspect the controls.

Does the exhaunst fan turn on automatically when we cook or warm food items in our Samsung Microwave -- SMH 9187W?

Some interesting reading on page 8 of the owner's manual:

"Boilovers cause smoking and greasy spillovers that may ignite and spread if the vent fan is operating. To minimize automatic fan operation, use adequate sized cookware and use high heat on surface units only when necessary."

And on page 20:

"If the temperature becomes too hot around the microwave oven, the fan in the vent hood will automatically turn on at the LEVEL 2 setting to cool the oven. The fan will automatically turn off when the oven has cooled down sufficiently. This is an automated process and cannot be turned off. The fan may stay on for 30 minutes or more after the cooktop and microwave controls are turned off. The Vent Fan will only operate in 1~4 levels modes while the microwave is working."

"Using the Vent delay off button
1. Press the Delay Off button once to turn the fan off after 1 minute.
2. Press the Delay Off button twice to turn the fan off after 3 minutes.
3. Press the Delay Off button three times to turn the fan off after 5 minutes.
4. Press the Delay Off button fiour times to turn the fan off after 10 minutes.
5. Press the Delay Off button five times to turn the fan off after 30 minutes."

If for some reason you don't have your owner's manual, you can still download it free here.

Ge jvm1650sh01 surface light doesnt work/ vent

We see (and repair) this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week or so.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

This can often also affect the exhaust fan, cooling fan, turntable, and/or inside light operation, too.

Details of our service are at our Web site, along with a video showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Feel free to contact me directly with your brand, full model number and symptoms.

Mouse in vent fan?

Yes, the mouse was probably attracted to the warmth and food odors in the duct work and may have gotten trapped in the vanes of the fan and died. I'd act fast...

The best bet is to remove the oven from the wall, or almost from the wall, so you can see the area of the hood vent exhaust fan.

This is safer with two people and the installation instructions will be of great help.

You can download GE owner's manuals and installation instructions here.

Mircowave works, exhaust door opens, fan stop working

From looking at the owner's manual, it looks like the vent fan is only supposed to come on when the internal temperature of the microwave gets too high OR when you press the VENT FAN pad. Here are a couple of fan-related excerpts from the owner's manual, which can be found here: (or the better URL here: Automatic Fan An automatic fan feature protects the microwave from too much heat rising from the cooktop below it. It automatically turns on if it senses too much heat. If you have turned the fan on, you may find that you cannot turn it off. The fan will automatically turn off when the internal parts are cool. It may stay on for 30 minutes or more after the cooktop and microwave controls are turned off. - Vent Fan The vent fan removes steam and other vapors from surface cooking. Press VENT FAN once for high fan speed, twice for medium fan speed, a third time for low faw speed, or a fourth time to turn the fan off. Press the VENT FAN BOOST pad for extra fan speed. - Hope this helps.
