Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I have a built in Fax modem on my Sony Vaoi and since my stand alone Fax machine broke down, I have been using the PC based software that comes with Microsoft . The problem I am having is that most times I have to re-boot my PC before a fax can come through which is really annoying since I have to keep my PC on at all times for some programs that I use. I can send faxes anytime.

Sorry, I should have thanked you earlier but have not had time to look into WinFax Pro as yet - at least I know where to start. Thank you for your help.

Smita,

You didn't mention what Operating system you had, Since you mentioned Microsoft I'm assuming it's one of the varieties of windows.

In my honest oppinion I believe your problem lies with using the integrated fax utilities "Built into" Windows. Microsofts Fax utilities never were as good as some of the Standalone software out there.

My best advice if you need to use your PC for faxing is to get one of the stand alone fax programs out there. My recommendation would be WinFax Pro. But you are welcome to shop around and Find one that fits your needs both in cost and functionality.

Good Luck and Take care
Dave

Manual motherboard

Manufacturers only supply mainboard manuals when the mainboard is sold as a stand-alone part. This is so that the system builder can populate and setup the board according to specifications. Pre-built systems use mainboards that are specially designed for the PC manufacturer by the mainboard manufacturer. There is no manual associated with these builds. Some mainboards used in pre-built systems may be very similar to stand-alone models. In those cases, you may be able to use the stand-alone manual. But unless you know who made the mainboard for Lenovo (they did not), you won't find a manual for the mainboard specifically.

How do I hook up an HP v40 to my PC and a cable modem so that my FAX works?

You probably need to hook up to a landline telephone line, too. Or, you can use an "e-fax" service that lets you send faxes via internet. Basically, they would send your fax as middleman to the recipient. Windows Vista except Business version) does not have inherent fax support like Windows XP and Windows 7 Professional. And programs such as WinFax did not upgrade to Vista and 7. But, your fax modem should have come with some faxing software.

You put in modem card and then run telephone line to back. You can usually run a line to a telephone from the 2nd connection on the back with the telephone symbol below it.

Hope this helps you a litle.

Is/are there fax/printers that will work with emachine pcs?

The fax function of all-in-one printers is separate with a telephone line. It runs almost independent of the operating system. The software that comes with the all-in-one controls faxing and printing to a fax.
Direct answer to your question; any will work
Are you aware that you can fax from the computer? You must have a modem either internal or external that supports fax. Look at your OS help for fax to get more details.

Can a Lexmark X4270 be used as a stand alone copier and fax without being hooked to the computer?

Absolutely! The only thing needed for use as a fax is being plugged into a live phone line. These are specifically designed for just that purpose so the computer does not have to be left running while fax machine and copier remain on in the office. Mainly so the office can shut down the computer when not needed to save power when not needed. Ex. to receive faxes at night when the office is closed. You only need to leave the printer on and it will function as a stand alone copier fax machine. The computer is only required when you want to print a document or scan a page and save it. I hope this fully answers your question.
If you have others feel free to ask.

Actually, you cannot send faxes through a DSL modem. You have to use a phone line or send it through the internet (not directly through the modem), at least from what I know...
