Why is desktop computer not booting

It's probably not plugged in or the wall socket has run out of electricity?

Don't worry, our resident Computer Guru Larry will be along shortly. He will be able to fix it, even with no details :>)

When i turned on switch dell vostro 230 it give no display and led colour is red

No Display, so does it seem like the computer booted up and is running except that the Display is black? Do you hear fans running, disk drive spinning, blinking lights or beeps?

I'm going to assume that in your case since you mentioned a red light that it is not booting up all the way. Therefore your problem is probably with the memory, the video card or some other motherboard issue.

Remove the Power Cord, Remove the Battery, Remove the cover that houses the memory on the bottom of the laptop then remove one of thememory chips. Set the chip aside then try rebooting the computer. If it boots, then you know the memory chip you set aside is bad so mark an x onit with an ink pen. If it fails to boot then move the chip to the nextmemory slot and try rebooting. If it fails take the chip out and set itaside, then put the other chip in and try booting it in both slots. If itboots, just to verify that the chip set aside is bad, mark an x on it and putit into the open memory chip slot and try booting.

G42-415DX laptop - will not boot up, only gets through HP splash screen then blinking cursor on black screen. Have tried booting to Safe Mode (F8 and F5) and System Recovery (F11) with same problem -...

blinking cursor problem is the error messages to your hard disk. do troubleshooting on your hard disk by replacing the hard disk (100% fully functional) and then do the system installation
(you will get results cheer)

good luck

Will not start the boot up process. Only the battery, ac, and power light on.

it might start but you may not see anything on your screen which may indicate a problem with your display, back light or video driver.
look for the hd light see if it is blinking, if it is blinking it is possible that the problem is the display.

do you get any image whatsoever at boot up? any message? any first screen? what does it say?

if in fact the pc does not boot up, it could be your motherboard, your cpu or your memory, if that's the case usually you should hear a secuence of beeps, do you hear any? what secuence?

can you try booting from a bootable cd? dowload knoppix and try to see if you can. if you it might be a problem with your hd.

post back with your findings.

Booting up

one light is for hardrive activity , the other is to show the power is on.. the flashing one is most likely the power light as most computers will tell you when thier ill....the beeping is an error code and should be in some pattern EG: Power LED blinks red twice, once a second, followed by a two second pause. Or something like that. Take note of the pattern and repost it here, then we can give you a specific area to look at.
