3 causes
1 faulty cartridge
2 dirty contacts
3 print carriage ribbon damaged

Rmove cartridge and rub the golden contacts at the back of the cartridge with a slightly damp (not wet) tissue. Re insert and turn printer off and on again

If this doen't work check the white ribbon inside the printer cartridge carriage in the printer (which touches the golden contacts on the back of the cartridge when it is inserted) for damage - it might have a pinhole in it where the metal pin holding the cartridge in place has pushed back through the white ribbon
If there is no damage and rubbing the cartridge contacts has not worked then most likely it is a faulty cartridge
Let me know how you get on

Hp officejet 4355 gives this message " cartrige error" refer to device documents for trouble shooting

Mostly, printer cartridge error occurs when the printer head is unable to identify the cartridge properly. And the basic reason behind this is that the cartridge is improperly attached. To reattach the cartridge, turn on the lid of the printer and then remove the cartridge from the printer head. Check the cartridge to make sure that there are no scratches or other damaged parts that can contribute to a printer cartridge error report. Take note that the cartridge should not be left open for more than 30 minutes; otherwise the ink will start to dry up and the cartridge will get clogged.

Cartridge error refer device documentation troubleshoot

Remove the black cartridge and keep only the color cartridge in, and check the message. Now remove teh color cartridge and insert only the black cartridge in, and check the message. This should give an idea about which cartridge has a problem.
