Hi PR3000,

The problem did not get resolved by changing the toner because on the C920, the toner is just that, the source of toner, and is not involved in the actual print process as it is with laser printers where the imaging drum and toner are all one unit.

In the C920, there is a separate photodeveloper unit. One for each of the 4 colors. This is the thin rail like part that sits above the toner cartridge. It is both user replaceable, and a consumable, and does need to be replaced occasionally. Usually you would either replace just the black, or all 3 colors. They do not recommend changing only one of the color developers, but rather all 3 as a set.

There are many places to purchase this item, including Office Depot, as shown below, approximately $60.00
Lexmark 12N0773 Black Photodeveloper Unit Item # 336633

Good luck, and please remember to rate this solution.

Thank you,

Cory

Cleaning the print cartridge nozzles
To improve print quality, you may need to clean the print cartridge nozzles.
Clean the nozzles when:
• Characters are not printing completely.
• White dashes appear in graphics or printed text.
• Print is smudged or too dark.
• Colors on print jobs are faded or they differ from the colors on the
screen.
• Vertical, straight lines are not smooth.

You can use the operator panel or the Lexmark X5100 Series Solution
Center to clean the nozzles.
Using the operator panel
1 Load paper in the All-In-One. For help, see page 16.
2 Press Options until Cartridges appears on the display.
3 Press the right arrow until Clean appears on the display.
4 Press Select.
A nozzle page prints forcing ink through the nozzles to clean the
clogged nozzles.
5 Print your document again to verify your print quality has improved.
6 To further improve print quality, try wiping the print cartridge nozzles
and contacts (see page 44), and then print your document again.
7 If print quality has not improved, try cleaning the print cartridge
nozzles up to two more times.

Wiping the print cartridge nozzles and contacts
If the print quality does not improve after cleaning the print cartridge
nozzles, dried ink may be on the nozzles or contacts. To wipe the print
cartridge nozzles and contacts:
1 Remove the print cartridges. For help, see page 38.
2 Dampen a clean, lint-free cloth with water.
3 Hold the cloth against the gold nozzle area for about three seconds.
Gently blot and wipe dry in one direction (this prevents the colors in
the color cartridge from mixing).
4 Hold a clean, damp section of cloth against the contacts for about
three seconds. Gently blot and wipe dry in one direction.

When printing reports off, all the document does not print to the right of the page. whats the answer to fixing this

Hi

Does print is faded or it prints clear? If faded, just get your cartridge and shake it well to distribute evenly the toner. If prints clear, preview it first before printing and maybe the other print area you want is not included when printing. Just set the print area.

First print line print fades away across page,

The page size is off. Try readjusting it in your "printing preferences". Otherwise, if it is new, back to the store for a replacement. It really should not do that.

Light or Faded Areas in Solid Color Prints

If the issue is occuring in the same place on all prints, try the imaging drum (can't remember if this printer even uses one) or the transfer belt/roller (not sure which it uses). If you phone Dell support, they should run you through troubleshooting and send you either of those parts free of charge if you are under warranty. If not, buy them anyways; they don't degrade over time (if kept in the dark) and can be saved for when the currently installed one runs out if you don't need it to fix this issue.

New ink cartridges and still won't print .....streaks and faded ink.

hi ,

-try cleaning it manually - by a lint free cloth and moisten it with water then dub unto the printhead of the cartridge- 4 about 4-6 times, then finish it with a dry cloth-

-then run the cleaning cartridge on the printer
-then print an alignment page
-there is no problem on the printer its just the cartridges

I need refill instructions for a lexmark c920

I have a 6180 all in one fax, printer, scanner, copier. The scan bar goes to the bottom of the page area once I turn it on and stays there. It will not scan when prompt either by computer or manually. It was operating but once I moved it across the room it stopped. .

Fading cartridge problems

That printer is pretty old. Are you selecting "Best" quality when you print or is it possible that some documents are being printed in Quick Print mode (which puts less ink on the page)? If you're doing the same thing on each print job but the print quality changes, there's definitely a problem. If you're printing from web pages, the print quality may be a factor of the design of the pages. If you print two pages of a multi-page document and quality declines, you should be able to get help through Lexmark's technical support.
