Maybe you mean you could hear the fan? And the light is coming from the switch button of the desktop?

Can you hear beeping sounds when you try to switch on your computer? If that's the case? How many beeps do you hear?

Can you please check the Device Manager for me? See if there are yellow exclamation point next to the Hardware. You can find it by pressing Start ---> right-click My Computer and choose Manage and Under System Tools.

I would unplug the dell for a couple of minutes. Plug it back in and then see if it comes on. Sometimes dells go into a sleep mode and are hard to wake. If the pc is 5 years or older think about a new machine. Hope this helps.

Before performing anything on the motherboard try to verify if the power supply is working properly, sometimes this is the first symptom of a failure power supply.

Is the power button orange, it's most likely a motherboard failure.

Cdc-m computer will not come on the on light works case fans comes on but that is all

Do you mean that your computer does not turn on just casing light lit on and Fan runs only? What means new, memory and case?

If just lights on, fan runs but no image on monitor or blank screen, you should hear some kind of sound form inside of the CPU casing. This is called beep code. If you hear continuous beep or 3 same beep with same length, it means your motherboard is missing RAM, just connect it properly. If does not work or stop try a good RAM installing to see the result and plug your this RAM to a working machine that have the same kind of RAM.
If you hear one long beep with two short beep After PC switching on, or Two long beep with one short beep following - that means your Graphics card is not connected properly, or damaged or miss matching. If you do not have any beep code after switching on the machine, your motherboard may not have build in emergency speaker. Try to clear this things first. Please mention details of your computer with model number of your motherboard. Let me know updates.

Cpu fan works, power supply fan works why wont' computer come on?

Could be a number of reasons:
The CPu fan and the PSU fans will come on, even though the system is not working. There is a possibility that the CPU has blown, you can check this easily by (carefully) feeling the heatsink after it has been running a while. A dead CPU will not use power and therefore not heat up. If after say 10 minutes of running, the heatsink is clay cold, suspect the CPU. Replace with another one, spreading CPU grease on the top before putting the heatsink back on.

A blown CPU will usually be indicated bu there being NO beeps from the system (see below)

If the CPU appears to be generating heat, visually inspect the board, look for blown or blowing capacitors (the small cylinder like components) on the motherboard, any that are bulging or leaking a brown residue, or have blown, will render the motherboard inoperative.

If these appear ok (they still may be damaged), unplug all components except the hard drive, and ram and video card, see if the system then boots. If it does, proceed to re-installation of each in turn, until the faulty peripheral halts the boot.

Listen for any beeps as the ssytem switches on these beeps describe the type of problem
(repost if you hear any beeps)

Remove one stick of ram and try rebooting, if it works, suspect the ram module, try the other and see if that makes any difference.

Failing that, your last recourse is to power the system off, remove the bios battery, replace after 2 minutes and see if clearing the Cmos "unsticks" the computer.

After That, suspect the motherboard is dead.

The computer won't turn on

Try these steps if your computer won't turn on:

*You may or may not see a light on the back of your PC depending on the kind of power supply you have and the exact cause of the problem.(monitor light will likely be amber/yellow if your computer has stopped sending information to it)

*The power lights will stay on, you'll likely hear the fans inside your PC running, and you may or may not hear one or more beeps coming from the computer. If you hear beep sound, check your physical connections to the PC like RAM, Monitor, Cpu, Keyboard.

I was given an emachine T2742, I turned it on and it worked for a little while and then went off by itself. I can hear and see the fan running. It will not come on but will continue to try to start. ...

After running can you feel any heat around the CPU heatsink? Does the CPU fan run at all?
Is it trying to restart and then looping back to reboot?

Try to access the Bios (press Del as soon as it switches on) see if you can get to the bios screen, see how long it will stay in the Bios screen before switching off or rebooting. If the bios has a hardware monitor, see what the temp of the CPU is. 30 degrees to 40 degrees is normal

Then switch off, unplug the Optical drives, the hard drive and floppy drive in turn, try to reboot and see if it is stable with just the hard drive installed.

IF the CPU heatsink remains cool after all that, the issue is with a dead CPU or a blown component on the motherbiard

This is a motherboard problem. You'll need to replace it. Although, it may be cheaper just to buy a new PC (eMachines are never very expensive, or well-made for that matter)

Upgrade cpu on pavilion 6630

i am suggesting you the solution keeping in mind that there is no display is on the monitor.
The max ram that HP Pavilion 6630 PC Desktop can support is 256 mb pc 100 or pc 133mhz.
check if you have installed that amount of ram, if thats correct then check if any continues beep sound is coming out of CPU.

if there is beep try to change the ram slot.the more possibilty i either the new ram is faulty or incompatibel.

try to install the old ram see if it works. if still no display.

install old cpu and heat sink.see what happen ..

then let me know the result.

bye & take care..

CPU shutting down.

Hi MonaMona,
Replacing a CPU fan is easy, but be carefull, the CPU will have old thermal grease on it, so unlatch the CPU at the same time you take the fan off. Because the CPU will come up with the fan, so unlatch the CPU pins, to release the CPU pins, when taking the fan off. And when putting the new fan on the CPU, & the fan nust be smaller then 80mm, the sell just CPU fans. Make sure you put on thermal grease on the CPU, so it won't over heat & will protect your CPU, also don't cake on the grease. Put on a small amout & spread it on the CPU thin. Let me know if that does it for you.

Good Luck with it.
