Dell Inspiron 5150 won't boot

By steffp01 on Nov 11, 2008

Hi,

When I try to boot my laptop, it starts to boot ok then a few seconds later it stops and I get a green flashing power light and an orange flashing battery light. Does anyone know what I need to do to fix it?

Thanks,
Steff

- I get the lights whether the battery is in or not.

Nov 11, 2008

- If I try without the extra RAM, it no longer does the flashing lights thing, it just waits a couple of seconds and turns itself off.

- I now get the same two flashing lights with no battery and no extra RAM installed (I've no idea how you access the RAM it came with).

Same Problem

-   My 5150 won't boot either. When I push the power button, the fan starts to spin and the power light comes on solid green for a few seconds. Then, the fan goes off, and the power light just flashes green about every 3 seconds. If I push the power button, the power light goes solid green for a few seconds, then goes out. If I push the shift key while the power light is solid green (before it goes out), the fan comes on constant, the power light flashes green rapidly and the battery light flashes orange rapidly. When I create this situation with the shift key, the only way to turn off the laptop is to pull the power plug and take out the battery. Does this give any more clues to how to fix this problem?-   leo5777

-   Exact same - flashing green power and amber battery lights - no response in any other way.  Battery out doesnt do anything.-   Guest

-   Dell Latitude 100L won't boot. Green power light and yellow battery light blink nonstop. Tried different RAM, hard drive and have taken out the battery. Still just flashing lights and won't start up.-   g4tom

- If that's the only ram chip then you probably have a faulty ram chip. If you have an extra one than you can try it to see if it works. or borrow one from a friend.

Here is the ram your laptop should take. DDR2 - PC2100, PC2700, PC3200

You can buy that ram from (all below are links)

good luck

- there should be a compartment on the bottom that snaps off or screws off.
