Not smoking

Traeger grills just will NOT smoke at temps much above 200 degrees. I have to stand by my grill continually in the summer to keep opening and closing the lid to let the heat out. That also lets the smoke out. I also have turned the grill off and on to try to maintain the temperature at 180 degrees where it smokes best and cooks low and slow. It's less of a problem in the winter months. Then I find myself setting the temperature higher turning it from low to medium and back to maintain the temperature I want.

HOW DO I PLACE WOODCHIPS IN THE SMOKER FOR SMOKING

soaking wood chips in water keeps them from burning up . soak them and randomly place them over coals close vents to just being a little bit open this will keep an actual flame down yet still cook when smoking low heat is the best way to smoke. soak wood chips for 45 minutes min or up to a day. use beer apple juice or water for different flavors

Do you wet the chips for smoking fish or just let them burn to get the smoke? how long does a pan of chips usually last?

DO NOT USE THE BOX TO KEEP HEAT IN!!! Mine caught fire and I looked outside and there were 6 foot flames engulfing the whole unit! Had to use fire extinguisher (thankfully keep them handy) to douse.

I never used a smoker grill when smoking do you put charcol in the side box and grill

In the side box. And the food to be smoked on the grill. Remember to keep the grill's hood/lid closed while smoking. Smoking is a low heat (225 - 250 Degrees) slow process. I always call it a "Low and slow process with big rewards."

Enjoy!!!

How much wood do you put in a h20 smoker for ribs

Ah, the age old question. Basically the meat only absorbs the smoke for the first hour to two. This is when the smoke ring is created in the meat. I would use enough soaked wood to keep a slight smoke coming out for the first two hours. After that charcoal is enough in this type of smoker.

You can Google "smoking meat" and find tons of info and forums but be forewarned. You may get hooked in the art of smoking meat.

Do not have the manual for my smoker

If it looks like the one in the picture you put the fire in the firebox (smaller one) on the left. Best to use lump charcoal and keep the temp low for smoking, around 210 to 245F. Open the lid on the smoke stack all the way until you gain some experience. If you keep too much smoke in too long it will be bitter. Place the meat on the far right side of the main barrel. Go to www.smokingmeat.com and join for free. There is a bunch of us there who share smoking recipies and methods of smoking, sauces, rubs, etc. Slow cooking and low temp are the secrets to smoking meat.

I need instructions for brinkman smoker grill how to smoke

Hi,
I have a Weber Smoky Mountain which is similar to the Brinkman. I learned how to smoke by going to the VIRTUAL BULLET website. www.vertualwebberbullet.com. Also, going to the many forums on smoking helps.

Don't get upset if things don't work out the first time....keep on trying!

Hank
