I had the same problem. You must take out your clothes immediately and leave the door open after every wash to let the inside of the washer completely dry. I believe I read to run a cycle of bleach water and wipe down the inside of the door and interior with bleach/water mixture. Then let it dry. You then can start washing your clothes again, but you must be diligent about leaving the door open to air out between washings.Hope this works for you. I almost sold my machines shortly after I bought them because my clothes were always smelly after washing. Leaving the door open has worked for us.
smelly front loader???all front loader tend to leave a little water left over in the inner tub after every load, always leave washer door a crack open to reduce smell/mold on seal,to get rid of smell simply run a normal cycle,no clothes, with a dose of bleach or better yet AFFRESH,made by whirlpool,a bleach tablet with fragerance, sanitze and smells good!!answer,,,AFFRESH
Is the machine operating properly, or are your clothes getting a musty smell?
The musty smell has a few solutions, One may work but probably a combination of all will work best.
Immediately move wet clothes to the dryer, do not let them sit in the washer for a long time. If your clothes smell, put mouthwash with your clothes directly in the tub during the wash cycle (this will not stain your clothes) leave the door open when not in use (lets it dry out) If the washer smells, use bleach and hot water in an empty cycle once in a while (kills just about every kind of bacteria or mold which may be causing the smell) Use washing machine cleaner once in a while(can be found at your local grocery store isle next to detergent) Dry your clothes completely, damp clothes can start to smell again.
If you are looking for a new washer, try to find a newer model that features a stainless steel tub with silver impregnation. The silver is a natural disinfectant.
"In washing in the HE washers I think that if you have more than 3 loads a week you should maybe wash your washer at least once a week.I have started wiping the door off and leaving it open between washing and that helps a lot with the smell. This is why I think if you could wash the washer once a week it would probably do better. You never had this problem in the old washers."Try this in your washer.
Run your machine through its cycle with NO clothes and when it is filling up with water put bleach in the water. Put bleach in only at the start of cycle.
Before you do this clean all inside parts the best you can yes with bleach and you can run something like fleecy to make clothes soft and smell nice when you wash your clothes as well. Our machine has a special holder to put softener in.
Do NOT have clothes in when running the heavy bleach through it. This should kill the bacteria .
The smell in my Kenwood Elite washer is horrible. I use bleach, I use the new TIde Washing Machine Cleaner, I have tried the hot cycles, I have left it open between washings but can't leave it open very much because we have a door out to garage that would hit the washer door if left open too wide. I can't leave clothes in there too long or they smell too much and have to rewash. The clothes never come out of washer smelling super clean. After I dry them using a scented dryer sheet, they are acceptable, but I never have really clean smelling scented clothes any more.
I had similar problem, the front door seal can trap small items, socks, handtowels. I didnt figure this out for some months, each load of clothes had a foul, mildew smell, Check door seal for trapped clothes, run intermittent cycles with bleach only, no clothes, be sure to leave door open when not in use to air out , this will reduce smell.
