Question about Cannon Office Equipment & Supplies

8 Answers

The screen on my Cannon MP600 displays the following reference and message: "U043" and "The following ink tank cannot be recognized." This applies to all of the ink cartridges. None are recognized. All have sufficient ink. How do I solve this problem. Thanks for your help.

Replace the ink tanks and make sure they are snapped in / seated properly.
Try cleaning the contacts between the cartridges and the cartridge carrier.

If the problem is not solved, unplug the printer for half a hour, try again. Try restoring the printer to defaults.

Hows your warranty?

1) The Chips that are built into the cartridges DO NOT sense the ink level they just count the number of printouts and either light when they THINK the ink level is low or flash when they THINK the ink level has run out. Refilling the cartridges does not affect this.

2) if only one cartridge light is flashing either black or the color, printing from both colors is possible.

3) if BOTH lights are flashing which would imply the error light is flashing also, (error E5) then game over the printer locks and printing or scanning is not possible

4) The solution is simply to replace EITHER the black or EITHER the color cartridge to continue printing. The new genuine Canon cartridge which contains the full chip will allow printing.

5) obviously replacing the black cartridge is the most effective method and simply refill the color cartridge when necessary which everybody as already probably done.

6) The service mode trick of resetting the ink level definitely does not work, for the MP160.

6) This ploy by Canon is simply to force people to buy their cartridges which is how they make their money from this business.
NOT from a printer which actually costs less than buying both genuine cartridges

If this is refilled cart then you can only try to clean the cartridge

  1. Hold the cartridge upside down, with the bar-code label facing you.
  2. Take a damp paper towel and use it to wipe the printhead of the cartridge on the bottom (where the ink comes out). Wipe the printhead horizontally in one direction only (left to right).
  3. Continue doing this until the printhead looks clean.
  4. Then dab the cartridge on the towel to make sure the ink is flowing.
  5. Next, look inside the printer and locate the carrier that holds ink cartridges. Caution: Make sure the cartridges are not installed at this point.
    1. Look for a shiny piece of metal underneath the contacts at the back of the carrier.
    2. Take a damp cotton swab (use water only!) and wipe along the bottom of the shiny metal piece. Note: You may need more than one swab.Make sure you do it only to metal part where ink comes ...
    3. OR you may need to use original cannon cart if still get the same error then you need to replace the print heat ....... on the printer ,..
    Good luck....

Same problem - two solutions I found helped me work out mine. One said contacts needed to be cleaned and it worked to use a Q-tip and alcohol or just click it in position several times until it recognizes the cartridge - this may work. Another said that they got it to work by installing a brand new cartridge - cool, but I have one full of ink it won't recognize. So I pulled the little circuit board off a used cartridge (like you need to do with some refills) and put it on the cartridge that it wouldn't recogrnize - works great. Still haven't figured out how to get it to acknowledge ink levels though. Canon really should be more consumer friendly since these problems seem to be intended to compel the use of proprietary cartridges.

U043

The U043 error code indicates that an ink tank is not installed. One or more ink tank icons on the LCD should also be lit up. The lit up icon indicates the applicable ink tank. Verify these tanks are indeed fully seated in the print head and that they are lit up red.

You can also press the OK button to clear this message and continue.

MP500 ink tank cannot be recognized error U043

I had the same problem. My mp630 is also only 4 months old. I replaced all colour ink cartrdiges(inc black), but was only able to release the function for detecting the ink levels for magenta and cyan. Yellow and black then started giving error message U043, with them alternating between working, but never working at the same time. Getting them all clicked in with the lights glowing red does not solve the problem, as once the printer cover is closed, the same error message turns up. The only thing that worked for me is moving the chip slightly out of alignment, by pushing the sliding chip holder, and I only had to do this twice before they all started working and the printer was unlocked.

MP500 ink tank cannot be recognized error U043

I have a canon mp510 pixma same message U043 and a u150 fault.
I cant see any chip to replace and have replaced my original cartridges with a non branded cheaper type, this might be why. Does this make a difference or is this the same problem occurring with replacement canon cartridges as well.

Dont want to buy genuine ones if its not going to make any difference.

Anyone who can help me would be appreciated
