Bad news:

In my experiance you have a fried mother board.

Question are you getting any display from your monitor - if you are there is hope - if not the same thing that took out the power suply has probably fried the motherboard.

The only other thing I would sugest is to flash the BIOS - either locate JP1 or remove the battery (looks like a whatch battery) and cross the terminals with a screwdriver - re-install the battery and see how it goes.

Point: No display = no motherboard.

Good news is that the RAM, Procesor and other components are probably good.

CPU Fan sounds like a jet and computer won't start

It sounds more like the hard drive, the fan has nothing to do with your computer booting up. If the hard drive is starting to go bad it will not boot up, that's what it sounds like your computer is doing. I recommend checking out the hard drive and replacing it.

Compaq proliant 5500 server wont power up

In my experience when a server/computer does absolutely nothing when the power button is pressed it is a dead processor. That may not be the case in your situation. It could be as simple as a defective power switch. Is the switch a soft touch or does it push in and click? Does the switch feel normal when pushed? One of the power supplies could also be bad. Do you have any good power supplies to test in the server? Were there any power outages recently that could have caused damage to the PSU? I would start with checking the switch. You could hook up a circuit tester and see if the switch completes the circuit when depressed. Also take a look inside the server and look for any loose connections on the mainboard. It is possible the wire for the power switch has come loose.

Compaq proliant 5500 server P2 dual xeon processors. Will not power on. green lights on both powers supplies are on - green lights on Mother board and LCD on front are on but absolutely nothing happens...

I am wondering if you had been doing some work to this when this problem started. Did you take the wires off for the power switch? I have noticed that sometimes if you pull the wires off of the motherboard and put them back on and you put the connector on backwards (assuming that its a 2 wire cable for the front panel) it may not work. Also, if you have a screwdriver handy which Im sure you do, take the plug off of the motherboard and jump the 2 pins that start the system. If it makes the system work then change the switch. If that does not work then try checking the power supplies. Just because the light is no does not mean that the power supply is working correctly. Will the system work with just one power supply hooked up. If so try one at a time. I have also had luck with re-seating the processor and the system then booted correctly. Try reseating the ram. Bad drives, cards and cables can make the system not start. Unplug everything that you can and if it starts, plug one thing in at a time and see if you can eliminate the bad part. Hope this helps...

My computor screen is black pc tower has green light on abut no fans are running what has gone wrong . i took caseing off and cleaned all dust but plugged back in and no fans

The first thing I would check is the power supply. It sounds like it has just enough power to turn on some lights, but not enough to power up fans, motherboard, CPU, etc. So either test the Power supply, or just purchase a new one. They are pretty cheap these days.

Loud motherboard fan on Dell Dimension 9100

depends on the noise. Rattling: Ensure that all cables are out of the way and not touching the blades. Loud screaching noise: replace the fan immediately. now when you say mother board fan is it inbuilt?

Could a faulty fan cause my pc not to switch on

Normally the computer will still come on even if the fan is not there but then will sometime display cpu fan warning and then sometimes turn off depending on motherboard and so on but unless the fan wires are shorted out or something this is most likely not the case

It sounds like your power supply has gone bad
Do you hear any type of winning sound or like a discharge sound that is barely noticeable when you turn it on? You would probably almost have to put your ear right next to it to hear it or listen carefully when you press power because that sound is one of the capacitors in the power supply that has gone bad and the power supply would need to be replaced

Do you have another power supply you can use to see if it works with a different one?

Noisy fan

We have a Dell Dimension 4700C too. We had it on a 3-year warranty and the only problem with it was that from that to time it would become abnormally noisy, too noisy in fact. Dell sent a repair guy twice, and they changed the heatsink/fan assembly unit both times, and the third time we did it ourselves (it's not that hard to do), but here's the thing, we noticed how DUSTY it was when it came out, we wondered how it even worked with all that dust. So, now our warranty has expired, and guess what, the computer started making that terrible racket again, so this time, we opened it, armed with the vacuum cleaner and a can of compressed air, gave the whole inside of the computer a good once over, removed the heatsink/fan assembly and cleaned it thorougly (you can't do this unless it is out), and it worked like a charm, can't even tell the computer is running. Hope this helps.
